Summary
“You gonna open the gate or what?” George asks, reaching over to paw at the thing.
It’s fiddly and George never seems to be able to unlatch it properly. It probably needs a new latch, but he keeps forgetting to take a closer look at it. Until George comes down. And then eventually the thought of the shitty gate is too far away, forgotten again until it closes behind George on his way out.
“I’m kind of busy. Who says I want you in here anyways?” Nick teases, leaning against one of the bales.

He gets George, he likes to think. Asking George what’s wrong point blank will just irritate him. Asking him are you mad at me? comes across as pathetic and insecure in a way George hates. And did I do something wrong? just makes Nick look fucking stupid every time. Because he already knows the answer.
So instead he just inserts a voice into the room. Happily puts a target on his own back for George to aim at if he takes him up on it.
