A True Mating can only happen with compatible pairs, and bonds that weren't True scarred silvery like old wounds. It wasn't uncommon to see an omega with a scarred bond or two.Max was a great alpha, and a great friend. Daniel was a poor omega with a neck full of scars like a diary of failed relationships.

Max's expression doesn't change when Daniel blurts the words at him.
He answers, “Yeah.”
Then he shrugs.
Like Daniel’s entire world doesn’t tilt on its axis with the movement. Like this information was obvious, or innocuous, and shouldn’t completely blow Daniel’s mind the way it does.
“What the fuck? Since when.”
“Since I was sixteen, obviously, Daniel.”
“I would’ve noticed,” he weakly argues. “There is no way I wouldn’t have noticed.”
Save for last week, never had Daniel’s caregiver instinct ever been set off by or around Max. There is just no way Max could’ve regressed around him. He would’ve noticed.
Daniel can’t be a failure at this, too.
“No one notices,” Max replies, “which is good. I am quiet when I regress.”
“What do you mean, quiet?”
“As in, I do not speak, Daniel.”
