“For someone who managed to slip into a controlled facility alongside an official of the Convocation under false pretences, you are a terrible liar.” Hades has bent down, kneeling, meeting D’var’s eyes, his gaze searching for any injury the miqo’te is hiding, and D’var wants to be nearly anywhere but here. His merger control of his own aether flares as he feels that burningly familiar touch of Hades’s own, and he tries to push back against it. “Stop that, and let me help you.”
The words knock the breath from him in a sob that he barely catches behind his teeth even as the Ancient’s aether pushes into him, through him, like a wave. He remembers that feeling, knows it, and shudders with how much he has missed it, breath caught between his ribs even as his heart tries to shatter them from inside.Series

Navigating the demands others place on him, his own ravaged mind, and a growing relationship with a vampire spawn, all amid trying to find a cure for the infection they all share might be what breaks him.
