“Um, hello.” Rocky lifts a hand slowly. The rock spider chitters and attempts to lift one back. But it’s tangled in wire, and the force that the alien uses to tug it free sends his body reeling backwards and thumping against the side of the tunnel. Rocky tries to keep a straight face.
“I’ll call you Grace,” he says. “Clearly you have plenty of it.”

Rocky wakes up in the Tau Ceti system, with his commander and science specialist dead. How's he supposed to save Earth?
Befriend the alien scientist he runs into, of course.

“Got lucky last night, huh?” Chandler motions at Joey’s damp hair with his whisk. He says it like he doesn’t mind, like he’s happy for his best friend. Inside, Chandler feels like puking.
Joey’s face splits with an uncontrollable, endearingly crooked grin. “Yeah, I did. Hey man,” Joey nudges him with an elbow. “Be nice to her. I think this could go somewhere.”
“Oh, really.” Chandler’s heart is cracking, even though it really shouldn’t matter. “Going somewhere” usually lasted 2 months at most for Joey Tribbiani. Doesn’t stop Chandler from worrying anyways. Or really, mourning is more accurate. Mourning something he just can’t have.
Chandler is a 25-year-old statistical analyst with a hopelessly severe crush on his best friend. He's also a superhero when he has the chance.

Mindy Park is rapidly realising that the first intelligent extraterrestrial to make contact with the human race thinks they’re fucking stupid. She’s pretty sure that Dr Grace isn’t accurately translating half the things Rocky is saying, but most of what he is telling her is that Rocky has a better way of doing what NASA wants them to do, and honestly, it seems like Rocky is mostly right. She probably doesn’t want to know what the other half of what Grace’s new alien friend is saying, if the things that are making it through what she’s calling the “middle school teacher filter” are “why would you do something the dumb way when you could do it the right way”.

Mindy has a headache, Grace has trauma, Mark is confused and Rocky is wondering how humans made it in to space when they're all so, so dumb.

“Discussing possible reasons why Tau Ceti is not infected while other stars are,” Eva replied deftly. “I would invite you to join, but we were just finishing—”
“Oh, that’s easy.” His hand twisted a knob, and the notes came out sharper. “It is infected—Petrova Line and everything.”
In Grace's opinion, dreaming about time traveling is no excuse for getting out of practice with his Eridian. To the rest of the Petrova Taskforce, it seems a bit odd that their resident Astrophage expert has suddenly taken to carrying a keyboard around and playing it whenever he speaks. Eva Stratt resolves to figure out what is going on.
