It wasn't luck that had saved him back then. Just fate, a delayed death. That's what Calypso had meant. He wondered if she believed there was a difference between a hero and a lamb raised to slaughter. He wasn't sure if he did, anymore.
Percy thought dreams had escaped him on the island, because he could never remember any of them when he woke, but that wasn't it. He knew now that he had dreamt - it was just always the same one.
He watched his bottom lip - all teeth-dented and peeling and bloody - quiver and fall open. No sound came out, but Percy heard.

Lily laughs humourlessly.
"You can put your foot wherever you'd like," she retorts, delighting in the way Petunia's jaw drops. "I'm not going without Crookshanks!"
"You're acting foolish!" Petunia snaps. "Where else would you go?"
"I'll find my own place," Lily says, barely recognizing the words coming out of her mouth. This time, it's Petunia who laughs.
"Good luck with that," she says, all patronizing.
OR When Petunia offers an ultimatum, Lily finds herself becoming roommates with the last person she ever thought would come to her rescue: Sirius Black. It's the summer of '76, and Lily and her kitten, Crookshanks are moving to Bristol.
