Summary
At night, alone, he’d close his eyes and allow his curiosity to run rampant alongside his imagination. Wished he could find the strength to ask Icarus things he burned to know. Ask him if he ever felt the way Michael did.
Did he ache to kiss the rays of sunshine peeking down at him from the bars of his prison cell?
When Icarus fell to his knees every night to pray to unfeeling gods, did he hide his desires as well, shoving them haphazardly into the corner of his mind, despite knowing there was no hiding, no secrets to be kept from the god of light, of prophecy?
Did he yearn like Michael, when he thought of the sun, of what it represented?
or:
will is the sun god, and mike aches to be more than his devout servant.

Summary
"But it's probably because…"
He hesitates. He should bite his tongue. This will only hurt both of them. Will has never been a cruel person. But if he had to be cruel—
"It's probably because I fell in love with you, way back then."
—it would be with Mike.
or:
After a year of no contact, Will calls Mike on New Year's.

Summary
"I- I want to help you," Mike says, his eyes still closed. "Help you feel good."
Thrill zips up Will's spine. The words are straight out of a fantasy, out of a dream he's certain he's had about Mike, before.
His hands grip the sheets under him. Mike must've meant it in a different way. Will's reading into this, like he always does.
"Have you ever…" And here, Mike's hesitation makes him meet Will's eyes again. Will's breath catches at the sight. His pupils are blown out, his breath uneven. He looks hungry.
"Have you ever touched yourself, Will?"

Summary
All this time, he’d thought El was penance, for his failure to protect Will. That being with her was atonement, for wanting the wrong things, for feeling the wrong way. But it hadn’t helped— Will kept leaving. And El did, too. Mike keeps losing people, and nothing he does brings them back.
Each time Mike thinks of Will, he feels the weight of cosmic responsibility.
He's doesn't know what he feels for Will anymore. But he knows for certain that it isn't allowed.
non-linear series retrospective, from mike's perspective. (aka: the mike pov we all deserved)

Summary
He sits at his desk and thinks to himself about the story he can never tell.
It isn't the story of the mage; that, perhaps, is the easiest story to tell. An acceptable one, a story of love and loss, of power and politics, of magic and monsters.
The stories he grew up on are the same stories he's doomed to tell now. Of supernatural entities and learned helplessness.
No, the story he can never tell is one he's never seen or read before. One that could never have a happy ending.
It goes like this:
Four boys playing a tabletop role-playing game in a basement. Loud, chaotic, wild. There is a distinct air of youth surrounding them. They are untouched by trauma and unharmed by life.

mike wheeler, grief, and the (love) story he cannot tell.
