Once, very long ago, Death fell in love with Time and Magic, and Time and Magic had barely shared a glance before taking a hand of Death's each, and went on, to change the world. But many things happened before this: Time was curious, Magic was selfish, and Death was kind beyond measure, and so, this story began, like many great stories often do, with a rescue mission.
or: Harry, Ron and Hermione - who would one day become Death, Magic and Time, but have not become Death, Magic and Time yet - decide that the pyrrhic victory of the Second Wizarding War would not do and that they should create a second chance to get it right.

Summary
Peter loves his friends. Which is why he had to kill them. And now, he's doing- well. Alright. Things didn't turn out exactly as he'd anticipated, but he's making it work. Living his life. As a rat. Mostly trying not to think about things.
Fine. Things could be better.
But he hadn't thought they'd get worse- which is exactly what happens when, three years after James died, he's come back. And for some godforsaken reason, he's decided to make that Peter's problem. (Okay, okay- Peter gets it. He did kill him.) Peter is sure that James is going to turn him in, ruin his life the same as Peter had ruined the Marauders.
But this is James. And he doesn't do any of that.
What was Peter expecting, really?
(Features: A lot of fighting, a lot of forgiveness, and a splash of necromancy. Alright, you got me- rather a lot of necromancy. But come on- we can't just have the ghost of Christmas James show up. Haven't you seen 'A Muppet's Christmas Carol'? There needs to be at least two more ghosts.)

Maybe if he digs around in the past for an answer, the universe would be kind enough to help him out... Unless said universe was sick and tired of Harry Potter looking backwards instead of forwards.
