“A spar?” Mydei repeats Phainon’s request with the suggestion of a scoff in his voice, though he is already flexing his fingers in his gauntlets, checking that they’re secure. The metal clinks quietly from the motion, and Phainon just smiles. “For how long, Deliverer? Some of us have things to do.”
“To first blood,” Phainon says, so readily that he must have had his answer prepared. And then the edge of his smile quirks to smugness, in the way makes Mydei’s hands itch to do something about it. “Try not to let it end too quickly, will you?”
Mydei’s eyes narrow at him, but he still turns and begins to stride towards the Okhema sparring grounds. He can practically hear the delighted grin in the way Phainon’s footsteps follow right at his heels. “Fine,” he says over his shoulder. It’s a challenge, then - pain is negligible before the path to victory, and Mydei has no qualms in bleeding so long as he can repay the strike, but Phainon is asking the opposite of him. “You do the same.”
[A request. A spar. A dance. A kiss.]

Alhaitham exhaled shakily, not bothering to raise his eyes to look at Kaveh; he didn't need to, because he could feel Kaveh's gaze boring into him all the same. "And?"
"And how many iterations of reality would that result in, Haitham?" Kaveh asked slowly, enunciating every word with clear intent, his grip tightening even further around Alhaitham's shoulder. "How many possible outcomes where I'd return home to the joyful celebration of the successful liberation of our Archon, and an empty house?"

“Like what you see?” He laughs, teases.
“Yes.” The admission is barely even a whisper, meeting the air between the two of them– Aeons, Veritas is only an inch away at this point– and lingering there. Aventurine can hear his heartbeat in his ears and his breathing is suddenly far louder than it needs to be. He can’t help himself. He glances down at those plush lips before lifting them back up to those sunset eyes that seem much more intense than they were just a second ago.
Aventurine invites Veritas over for some drinks. It turns out that the wine he bought was even more potent to Veritas’ species than his own however. He has no complaints.

She’s a little bigger than she felt in his arms, but that’s barely any improvement. Babies are supposed to be a little chubby, a little wrinkly. And she’s…not. Her little fingers and toes are developed, maybe, and her nose is scrunched up in her sleep, but for a newborn he knows has been carried to term, she looks premature.
His fingers curl against the glass when he touches it. Eyes glued only on her, even when the cold at his fingertips tries to tear his attention away for a moment. Nothing can pull his eyes away from her. All he can think of is her. How little she is. He didn’t know she was there and look at what he went and did to her. Drank, stressed himself out, put his life and health on the line, and the person taking the brunt of it was her. She didn’t ask for that, and he put her through it anyway, even if it was unknowingly.
How’s he supposed to be a good dad when the first gift he gave her was near-death, before even giving her life?
