Summary
Clover once explained it to her like this: soulmates are cut from the same whole.
Thick parchment trembled in his hands as he held them up in example. Then he tore the page in half and laid the pieces out in front of her, one on top of the other.
In the ashes of her memory, it looked magical.
Or, the one where Robin and Sanji are soulmates.

Summary
The final aisle was stacked with candy, porn magazines, and a man staring straight at him.
Law froze.
Eyes had been fixed on the spot, like he'd followed the knock of Law’s heel around the store, tallied the distance, and loitered in wait. A smile flashed, pricked a dimple into one cheek; he was young and uncanny, with a straight nose and eyes without pupils—black, solid, high off pills sturdier than his body. A magazine sat open in bandaged hands, Hancock and a pair of crossed white thighs on the cover.
He chewed his gum with bare teeth, popped it.
Like a cracked knuckle.
(or: law isn't worth divine intervention, even when it came, but luffy's never waited on permission, divine or otherwise.)

Summary
Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is a decades-long, sprawling, occasionally unhinged serialized manga, and within that decades-long sprawl there are many, many references.
Herman Melville’s Moby Dick is another overly-long, sprawling, unhinged piece of fiction, thought by some to be the greatest novel in the American canon.
Let's discuss.
Or: 2.6k of meta essay analyzing and unpacking Oda's use of the Moby Dick allusion. Yes, really.

Summary
Luffy finds a dragon at the bottom of Sanji's teapot and Sanji won't tell him he sees only the wet tangle of black leaves in a halfhearted swirl. His attention is on the dishes from dinner waiting in the sink, and the pie crust for tomorrow's dessert.
"I see it, why can't you?" Luffy asks anyway, knowing.
"I see it," says Sanji.
