Kaveh and Alhaitham live together. Nothing ever happens. Nothing ever hurts. But sometimes, when Kaveh watches Nahida idly finish her homework, he gets the feeling that he’s forgetting something important.
Kaveh must have fallen asleep at his desk again, the morning light hitting his eyes like a slap. He blinked at the soft green blanket over his shoulders. When he stumbled into the hall, Alhaitham was sitting in the living quarters with his back to him, soundproof earpieces alit.
He had a stupid moment where he wanted to call out to Alhaitham. What would he even say? ‘I’m having some trouble.’ ‘Is the blanket yours?’ ‘You were right, I’m in over my head.’ ‘Can you hear me out?’ ‘Help me. Please, help me.’
Stupid. He yawned and went to stumble his way to the kitchen. From his periphery, he thought he saw Alhaitham turn towards him with a look like he wanted to say something. But that, too, surely was just a very nice dream.

Gentle rays of moonlight have begun streaming in through the windows, and the two of them stand brilliantly illuminated in the centre of the brightest ray—Columbina's laughing at Sandrone's indignance, the moonlight highlighting the soft curve of her face while the other scolds her.
She looks ethereal, every bit the Moon Goddess she is, and Arlecchino can't help the way her heart sharply aches with something like jealousy.

“My humble apologies, Imperator,” Hysilens says, her voice rasping unpleasantly—still so unaccustomed to the human tongue. She clears her throat, pressing a hand to her chest. “To see that fish in the blackness where the sun’s rays dare not shine… it is as a star; radiant in the depths of the sea. Not unlike your blazing light, which guided me to shore.”
Cerydra takes a long sip of her glass, only to fall silent. Golden ichor drips from the corner of her mouth, and Hysilens resists the urge to reach out, and…
“Were you truly so allured?” Cerydra murmurs, shattering the silent moment almost off-handedly—which is strange—no action of the Imperator's is impromptu in the slightest. She is an angler, a chessmaster. She is patient, composed, and she does not err lightly.
But Cerydra blinks as she looks to Hysilens, as if she too is struck with momentary surprise at her own tongue. Her breath is sweet, and warm against her siren’s scales. And Hysilens nods.
“Yes,” she whispers, for none but her light to hear. “I was.”

Summary
He had heard plenty of stories of Amphoreus’s demigods and their divine mandate, of their mission to assemble a force of the most worthy heroes in the hopes of ushering in the Era Nova. In those stories, the heroes were noble and brave, capable of shouldering the hopes of an entire world. They carried the lofty, unattainable wishes of the present into a distant future.
But what Phainon wanted was simple and hardly worth the weight of the world. He hoped the boy two bunks down from him recovered from his injury quickly. He hoped the girl at the fruit stand would save up enough to buy a copy of her favorite book. He hoped Tribbie would like the next story he’d tell them.
He hoped—as silly as it was—that someday, he might see Aglaea smile the way she used to.
In Aglaea's final moments, Phainon grieves, remembers, and continues on.
