When Ilya answers, he’s greeted with a whimpered moan that goes straight to his head, leaving him reeling like he’s just thrown back another shot. His mouth drops open, the cigarette dangling stupidly from his lower lip for a second until he plucks it free with his other hand.
Holy fuck. He must be dreaming. But the rough breaths filtering into his ear are too real, tethering him tightly to the moment.
“Jane,” he murmurs, gleeful and shocked. “This is not like you.”

Or: after Shane confesses that he can struggle to get off if he's too stressed, Ilya suggests he should just call him next time. He doesn't think Shane would ever be desperate enough to go through with it.

In consultation with my family and my personal medical team, I've decided to withdraw from the rest of the season to seek treatment for major depressive disorder. I wouldn't be doing right by the rest of my team by playing on a serious physical injury that could affect my ability to contribute to future seasons. The same goes for mental health. “Look, red!” Shane holds his clenched fist up triumphantly, and Yuna carefully steps over the baby gate blocking Shane’s doorway.
“Let me see.” she says softly, knowing full well that there’s nothing for her to see at all. The red string of fate that ties two souls together can only be seen by the people connected by it. Her own string leads her right to David, and she can only hope that whoever’s on the other end of Shane’s string is a worthy soulmate for her baby.
“Mine.” Shane, who’s never been possessive about any of his toys, is practically growling at her; stubbornly shaking his head. He wraps his free hand around his fist, pulling both close to his chest.
She tries not to find it adorable, and fails.

With a storm raging overhead and phone troubles to stymie the way, Yuna and Ilya wind up stuck together for a night as they wait out the storm. Secrets aren't so easy to hide when you have too little cover.
