Summary
One of the storeowners, the one with the helmet of brown hair, is standing in the mouth of the aisle. Confused, she looks behind her, and sees nothing. When she turns back, the man has his eyebrows raised.
“Yeah, I’m talking to you,” he says, glaring from behind his eyeglasses. The heat and vitriol behind his gaze almost makes her want to step back in caution. “You’re lucky I decided to do this on a day when you don’t have your kids.”
“Excuse me?” she sputters out, heart rate picking up in that familiar way when she’s faced head-on with confrontation. She’s never been good with the direct approach, most times to a fault. “Do I know you?” her eyes flick down to his badge, where it says Steve. She wracks her brain trying to think of one, especially one that would apparently hate her this much, but his scoffing tears her out of her thoughts.
“No, but you’re about to.” He cocks his head to the side, appraising her. Beverly has a feeling she’s not gonna like what he says next. “Does the name ‘Billy’ ring a bell?”
She drops the hardback.

Summary
“You should probably be more careful about jumping into random vehicles, then,” Suguru warns, irritated when the freeloader in his backseat only smiles more sharply. What a waste of a night—no sleep and barely any money to show for it. “You lost me a fare and wasted almost twenty minutes’ worth of gas.”
His unwanted passenger presses a hand over his heart.
“Genuinely, I feel terrible about that.” Then he folds his arms into the space between the front seats and rests his chin atop them. The bridge of his glasses slips halfway down his nose, partially revealing those arrestingly blue eyes again. “Let me make it up to you.”
Suguru spends his nights driving to make a little extra money; the guy he picks up around two a.m. isn’t who or what he expected, and now Suguru has his full and undivided attention.
(Or, Suguru accidentally kidnaps a yakuza boss.)

Summary
She doesn’t have any friends in Hawkins, acquaintances, sure, but no true friends. Certainly not anyone she could trust with this. The clinic is over an hour outside of Hawkins, so taking a taxi isn’t an option. It would be far too expensive.
There is only one person she can think of who could possibly take her and it is the last person who would want to do anything for her. Susan anxiously shifts her weight from foot to foot, scrubbing the dishes in the sink with a sudsy sponge and sneaking looks at her stepson through the window. Incidentally enough, he’s also got a sponge in hand, waxing the Camaro until it shines like a jewel.
