Summary
Shauna Shipman has her first (and God willing, last) kid at seventeen years old. Her parents raise Callie while she goes off to Brown. "Until you can support her," they say again and again.
And then college is over, and Shauna is back in town, trying to reconnect with the four-year-old daughter she barely knows. She's not sure she can support herself, let alone Callie.
But it just so happens Shauna knows Callie's Pre-K teacher pretty well already. Or did, anyway. Back before everything blew up.
"Miss Taylor," Callie calls her.
Frankly, Jackie is a lot better with kids than Shauna is.

Summary
Their first practice together, Coach Shauna had called them all morons in about twenty-seven ways that didn’t include actually opening her mouth, forcing them to rework the same basic drills over and over and over, as if they were beginners. Jackie had limped away, muddy and discouraged, but determined to prove herself.
She wasn’t expecting an easy ride, but she was sort of expecting things to get easier as they went along.
She was wrong to.
OR
Jackie has what she thinks is a hopeless crush on her tough, controversially older soccer coach, Shauna.

Summary
“Look,” Jackie tries again as she places her stack of cones on their relevant shelf like she has a thousand times before. She tries not to think about the cobweb she totally just felt brush against her hand, or the smell of Mari in her nose, so deep it almost burns. “Mari, did you know— I mean, have you ever had your heat before?”
Probably better to cut right to the chase, right? Jackie sees Mari freeze out of the corner of her eye, and bites her bottom lip, because oh, right.
Jackie is an alpha, and she’d convinced Mari to come here alone with her, and now Jackie’s asking her about heat, and this could look—
“Like, not in a weird way,” she rushes out awkwardly, and then, clearing her throat, “Sorry, I just mean— not like that. Not like… Not like this.”
OR:
Mari's in pre-heat, and it's throwing the team off their game. Ever the altruist, Jackie pulls her aside to check in.
