Once again, imminent death aside, Arthur felt a particularly indignant anger that these two, of all guys, were the ones to get the drop on him. He would’ve blamed Eames, as it was helping him evade capture that distracted Arthur enough to get grabbed, but the way things were now, that was hardly fair.
Eames’ mission hits a speed bump. Covers are blown, lives are risked, and lung capacity is severely tested.

Summary
Bit of an explanation for you: back in 2015(!), I took on a self-imposed writing challenge. To write a short fic every day for about a month. Now, I didn’t end up lasting the entire month, but I DID write a lot. I want to say about fifteen little stories, give or take. None of them are anything super in-depth or fancy - I was just trying to write, write, write. And looking back on a few of them, I think they’re actually pretty okay.
So, to that end, I’m gonna put a few (if not all) of them up here, on Ao3. Don’t expect anything too quickly though; unfortunately my rough drafts seem to have disappeared, so I’m having to copy/paste everything from tumblr into my notes, paragraph by paragraph.

Summary
Ilya was only a few strides behind Shane on the ice.
He clocked the angle before the hit even landed; Marlow coming in too hot, too fast, shoulder high. Shane turned and slowed at the wrong moment, skates clipping, balance gone.
Impact.
The sound carried oddly through the arena, duller than boards, sharper than ice. Shane went down hard, helmet skidding, body twisting. And then it all happened at once. Skates tangled. Marlow stumbled over him as he fell, too. A skate’s blade flashed too close, too sharp.

Shane's injuries during the Boston/Montreal game are much more life-threatening than in canon. Ilya's quick thinking and bone-deep instincts are the only reason he survives.

He was a sick man. A perverted freak. What kind of monster got off on hurting someone they were supposed to love? His heart was hammering in his chest, clawing at his lungs, and up his throat just to escape himself. He just needed to see that Shane was okay, the minute he could lay eyes on the other man he’d be pulled back up, and he would be okay again. It was with a shaking fist that he knocked on the door, and he said a silent prayer to his mother that it would be Shane that answered.
Ilya and Shane play rough and Ilya drops a few hours after Shane leaves. So he risks it all to go to his hotel to seek comfort. Hayden Pike is also there....and he can't quite believe it.
