Summary
The Mimic lets Grizel touch its shoulder—even through flimsy nightgown fabric, there are the telltale remnants of old horn growths, cut through at the base. Omenmarkers; cursebringers. Grizel grimaces as their fingers brush over the Mimic's horns—it's so cold. But the criss-crossed scars are the same, and the more Grizel touches it, the more the Mimic warms up.
"I don't understand it," Grizel says. And it's silly—the Mimic is no more intelligent than a mere animal, meant to follow its summoner, serve as an extension of their will. There's no use talking to it. But who else can they talk to?
"I don't understand it," Grizel says quietly. "Why he wants me, of all things."
Grizel grew up abused and living in the sewers like any other wretched Omen child. Vialla is a Tarnished seeking to construct a new world for Those Who Live In Death. They're an odd couple.

“Oh holy shit,” Zanka whispers, scooting back on the cold ground until his spine hits the metal bars. He wonders if he’s dreaming, or drugged and hallucinating again, because that’s the only way he can make sense of this.
This can’t be real. Werewolves are myths, stories to scare kids out of wandering too far out of the safe zones. August had even dressed up as one for Halloween last year, complete with a ridiculous fluffy tail and cheap plastic fangs. That was the level of real they were supposed to be—costume party bullshit.
But here one is, undeniable, the beast that was his team captain towering over him, fur shimmering under the moonlight filtering in.
Zanka knows he should run. He should scream for help, bolt up the stairs like a sane person, and never speak of this again. But this is Enjin, the same guy who’s saved his ass countless times, who pulled him back from rock bottom.
There’s nothing to fear.

"Uh... dude?" Enjin made a loose, unmistakable up and down jacking motion with his hand. "You know. Some 'me time’! Stroke one out. Whatever you wanna call it. How've you been getting rid of it this whole time?"
"I... meditate until it goes away," Zanka mumbled.
Enjin stared at him, appalled. "You what?"
"I told ya, I meditate," Zanka repeated, stubborn. "The Nijiku family doesn't talk about things like this. They say it's a weakness. A distraction. That if you ignore it long enough, it loses power over you. So I just sit with it until it passes."
Enjin ran a hand down his face, horrified. "Kid… you're telling me you've never jerked off? Not once?"
Zanka’s ears burned even brighter. He pulled the sheet higher, looking like he wanted the floor to swallow him. “Nobody taught me.”
