"How did you catch it, anyway?" Jayce asks. "Didn't you get your shot?"
"No." Viktor glares at him through the thick goggles. (They warp his eyes in a way that Jayce thinks is very cute, but he won't say that.) "I was working, and we only have so much time until our money runs out. You know this."
Irritation bubbles up in Jayce's body. He does know that, but he didn't—it wasn't supposed to make Viktor sick. Viktor should've been more careful! "You have a compromised immune system!" Blunt. It'll piss him off. Jayce is right, though.
"Yes," Viktor spits, "which is why I can afford to take the hit. I would have become sick regardless." He sniffles indignantly. "You, on the other hand, would probably be asymptomatic if you had taken the shot."

Jayce misses his flu shot. Viktor also misses his flu shot.
This is, of course, the one time they both get the flu at the same time.

Viktor felt, for a second, somewhat sated. This was not the life he had dreamed of, but only because he had, on some level, not really expected to have a life to dream about. He had a comfortable job, a kind employer, he had more time than he ever really expected to read, to study, to learn. He had, of course, a yearning for something more, but while their travels interrupted his personal experiments, they also funded them. He could imagine a better world for himself, and simultaneously accept the hand he had been dealt, as much as he disliked it.
None of this was new—they were the facts of his life.
But after that feeling of being sated came another. Something deep, twisted, terrifying, awful. There was no evidence to support it, only a sensation across his fingers, down the back of his neck, clutching at his chest.
Something—and he was not sure what—was about to change, it said.

He gets off the tram three stops early because he's hard and hopes he can sweat it out by walking the rest of the way, and he thinks about Viktor telling him he could fuck a pillow.
So, really, it's not that surprising that he tries it.

Jayce has a habit to help him relax—if "habit" is the right word for fucking his pillow while imagining his lab partner talking to him like a dog. Viktor—suddenly—doesn't have an apartment.

All the best gay clubs are in Zaun. So when Jayce wants to get his mind off of his crush on his colleague/partner/love of his fucking life, it's only natural that he'd head there for a night of dancing, drinking, and (hopefully) bottoming for someone who doesn't recognize his face.
He's just not expecting Viktor to show up. Or for him to be interested.
…And particularly, for him to be interested in Jayce's chest.

"Oh, uh," she coughs. "I'm really sorry, but for some reason, the booking only seems like it was made for one of you?"
Newt blinks. "Huh?"
