"Is a red rose similar to a pink one?” Galinda points at a red rose on Elphaba’s side of the table.
“Yes…” Elphaba starts. “Roses in general communicate romance and passion, although they’re also used to signify appreciation and sincerity. A red rose signifies eternal love and passion. A thornless one signifies love at first sight.”
Galinda nods, restlessness overtaking her. She’s unsure why her face keeps on getting hotter. They’re talking about something as simple as flowers!

Elphaba scrunches her brow. “What words?”
“No, pleas–” Galinda looks like she might pass out, the hands over her mouth trying to push her jaw closed, but she evidently can’t stop talking. “I told everyone I wanted to kiss you even though I d–” Galinda stops and tries again. “I don’t w– Don’t want to–”
Elphaba’s knees are weak as she studies her roommate. Something has taken over Galinda, something magical, it must have. Galinda is gagging, trying to finish her sentence over and over again, but she fails, an expression between confusion, horror, and fury in her eyes.

Before her sixteenth birthday, Galinda Arduenna Upland of the Upper Uplands spends a lot of time dreaming about her future soulmate.
Surely, he’d be just as sophisticated as her and like all the same things. He’d support her in her endeavors in becoming a sorcerer and wouldn’t mind a house that would be filled with all things pink.
In fact, he would be almost like a nice accessory for her since she doesn’t actually want any kind of man living in her house. They could have separate houses, and maybe Galinda could share hers with a best friend of sorts.
Galinda sometimes hopes that she doesn’t get a romantic soulmate but a platonic one. She wouldn’t know what to do if she had to share the rest of her life with a man.

Dearest darlingest Elphie,
It’s taken me the longest time to even write your name because it hurts too much! But I miss talking to you and telling you things and I thought, well, that I’d write to you even though you’ll never get these letters. It’s a bit silly maybe, but I lost my dearest darlingest bestest friend and life has hardly been the same for me anymore. So I thought this might make my heart a bit lighter.
Chistery has been looking after me. And oh, Elphie, he’s speaking full sentences already! I wish you were here to see it. Or well, hear it! He takes some time to get the words out but I still count it as a win. I feel he might be worried I might jump off my balcony or something whenever I look to the western sky and think about you! But can you blame me? Those moments are when I give myself permission to cry and really remember you in peace. ♡
There are too many tears in my eyes right now so I shall stop.

Elphaba’s studying her face almost expectantly. They did kiss and confess their undying (romantical!) love for each other the last time they met, after all! Glinda suddenly feels shy (a sentiment she isn’t plagued with too often) under Elphaba’s gaze. Her eyes flicker to green lips; she wants to feel their softness against hers again, to taste and feel until she doesn’t know where she ends and Elphaba begins.
“Elphie?”
“Yes, my sweet?”
The words make Glinda’s breath catch in her throat. “I think you should kiss me again.”

Morrible smiles. It is a grim thing, inhuman in a most off putting sort of way, teeth too white and lips curled too widely in the early morning air. Glinda would recoil only she’s trying quite hard not to show her hand, these days. “You love him, don’t you?”
Glinda nods. There is a terrible knot in her throat, she swallows around it but it only grows.
“Then act like it.”

Galinda smacked her immediately. Elphaba looked startled, bringing a hand up to rub the spot.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Galinda said, hands on her hips even as she sat on the bed. “Why would I everrr break up with you, Elphaba Thropp? You could just about be the most wicked thing in Oz and I’d still love you.”

There was a straightness to her spine that hadn't been there before, a kind of settled confidence that showed not in how she held her shoulders but in how she held her ground.
