    Summary

“Lady Morgana,” The lord said, his brows furrowing as he took a step back “Pardon me for the assumption, but I was told the king’s ward never left the East tower?” He asked and gestured vaguely around the gardens. Morgana smiled and Merlin smirked from his hiding place as he watched Arthur consider swooping in to save the man, but clearly thinking better of it.

“Ah, of course.” Morgana said “You must be confused. There are two wards of the king. I’m afraid you won’t be able to meet Merlin today.”

    Or

Uther took in Balinor’s child as a baby and claimed him as his ward. Merlin thinks he’s being held hostage, but whatever.

    Summary

Arthur wakes on the shores of Avalon. It’s fifteen hundred years into his future, and he is alone and lost: he thinks he might just hate Merlin for that. For what’s the point to having survived, if everything he knows is ground down to dust?

Yet as time passes and Arthur starts to find his way in the world, new questions arise to consume him. Why does no one seem to know anything about magic in this far-flung future? Why have the Sidhe chosen now of all times to return him?

And why do all the stories say Merlin should have been waiting for him?

The Dorocha. They are the voices of the dead, my child. And, like the dead, they are numberless.

    Or

A different take of the dorocha. Instead of them being faceless screams that attack you, they are actually figures of the dead. Merlin doesn't quite realize how much death affected him until him and the knights go to close the veil.

    Summary

"I'm not sure what I'd have done."
"And I didn't want to put you in that position.”

For better or for worse, Arthur knows Merlin's secret. The problem? Merlin doesn't know Arthur knows. This leaves Arthur with a predicament... and an opportunity. A test. Three trials and three opportunities for Merlin to prove he doesn't deserve death. Arthur hopes he will pass them. Maybe then the image of Merlin's golden eyes will stop haunting him.

Merlin opened his mouth. A noise unlike any sound Arthur had ever heard escaped from it. Loud and rumbling and guttural, inhuman, and in no way, shape, or form could actually be coming from his manservant.

But it was. And Merlin was speaking.

"O drakon, e male so ftengometta tesd'hup'anankes! Erkheo!"

For a minute, there was complete silence—a silence in which Arthur just stared from behind a tree in an incomprehensive daze.

But then there was a sound. Both loud and forceful and... familiar.

    The sound of flapping wings.

AKA an in-depth character study of Arthur. I do not endorse Arthur's actions, but this is what I think he'd do in canon. This was my season 3 prediction!

    Summary

“You-” Ygraine said, stepping up to point a finger in Uther’s face. “You are a liar and a murderer. The fact you think someone as sweet and caring as Vivienne is destined to marry you is a tragedy in itself, but if you expect me to hand over my brother’s rightful claim to Camelot’s throne-”

My claim to Camelot’s throne,” Uther threw back, face growing more red as Arthur looked between his parents in utter bewilderment. Merlin didn’t blame him. He had envisioned Uther and Ygraine’s love story to be more… well, less based in war and battles.

Ygraine’s eyes narrowed as she grabbed a goblet of wine and threw it in Uther’s face. A few of the guards shifted, but Uther only raised a hand to pause them, spitting out the wine with furious eyes.

“You,” Ygraine said coldly. “Are unworthy to sit upon a stool, let alone a throne.”

From a few feet away, Balinor scoffed as he sipped from his own goblet. “I kind of like having her as a hostage, Uther. She livens up the place.”

    Or

In a desperate attempt to save Arthur at Camlann, Merlin tries to reverse time. It works perhaps a tad too well.
