Up the creaking stairs of the old rotting house, snap into a salute, stare at the spot six inches above Ivan’s head while rattling off his report. Easy, like it always was, so long as he didn’t think too hard about the whole situation at hand, and what was coming.
Gilbert felt Ivan’s eyes on him like creeping fingers around his throat. The game was already in play, it was just up to him to play his part in it. He was obnoxiously sober, reality a dull scrape against his brain, but duty called all the same.

"Admittedly it has been a few centuries since I’ve been sacrificed to the hornèd gods of eld, but I hadn’t been aware you held such intentions for me.”
Francis takes Gilbert on a morning hike through the woods, for very normal and very innocent reasons with no ulterior motives in mind at all.

Just a few hundred meters over are the English, sitting in their own trenches and peering back over at you.

You're a young soldier on the Western Front, and after a surprise encounter with your nation you have to try and survive both the Great War and also the strange dynamic you've found yourself entangled in.
