    Summary

“I am your King!” He roared, and advanced forward until she could retreat no longer, the table bumping against the small of her back. “And your brothers have forgotten their place. It is not their business, their right, to forge such alliances or make such promises. I should have them all execu—”

“What would you have them do, then? What would you have me do?” she interrupted, near panic in her voice, eager to quell the rising tide of his wrath.

Feänor considered her, the desperation overwhelming her anger, and knew he was close.

    So close.

“I am in a precarious position, Artanis. I cannot allow dissent. It weakens us before our enemies and threatens everything we hold dear. Your brothers must obey.”

“They will, my king,” she promised, the words half-catching in her throat. “Please, my king,” she begged, and the lilt and cadence of her voice, throaty and tight from panic sent a hot jolt of pleasure to his groin.

“I think you could help me, Artanis. I have great need of you, in truth, and while these are not the circumstances I would have sought to obtain you, I will not waste the opportunity.”

    Summary

“We have given you time,” Celegorm said. “You are my brother’s wife. That gives me a share of you.”

“Not to me, it doesn’t,” Silithúr snapped, and had gone to take refuge by Curufin, who looked upon her fear indulgently. That was not the same thing as protection, she keenly knew. The problem with relying upon his word was that he had never understood her objection, only humored it.

    Eventually his patience ran out.

    Summary

My child has lived too long in peace.
“There are worse things than water-spirits. Real dangers. Evil, rotting things that stink and go cloaked in shadow. You must not go so far. If you see the skeletons of the swan-ships that burned, you must turn back.”
I have never seen a foam-fay. I have never known anyone taken by a spirit of the sea. But the Sea itself is perilous. And the monsters walk abroad in the empty places of the enemy North.
To say nothing of the monsters that might dwell in one’s home.

There is a man walking all alone along the shores of Losgar.

    Summary

But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me,
What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea?

The Lord of the Rings, Galadriel’s Song

    It happened so fast.

After Alqualondë, Artanis looks only onward.  There can be no return, not after what they’ve done.  And what would await them?  Only darkness, only sorrow.

Not even the curse and prophecy spoken by the dark figure standing high upon a rock could compel her to reverse course.  Nor the abandonment by the faithless Fëanáro and his sons, the stolen ships that vanished into the unmeasured night.

She will not turn back, defeated, begging at the feet of the Valar for pardon.

    Summary

In one swift movement, Maedhros crouched and took the round face in hand. The child paled, his lips trembling, and under Maedhros’s little finger, his pulse beat fast as a rabbit’s. What a contrast to how he had peered out from behind Rochen, hopeful at the thought that Maglor had come! Sickening, that hope. “Are you scared of me?” Maedhros said. “Good.”

He might’ve put the fear of Maglor into them right then and there. It was what he had come to do: tell them that Maglor, their sweet Maglor, had pushed their mother into the sea. As did I, he would say. As did we all. Don’t forget you are among enemies.

Maglor takes pity upon Elros and Elrond, from Maedhros’s point of view.
