    Summary

“Alright,” Eddie shrugs, laissez-faire. He pulls Buck’s plate to the center of the table; pushes his own forward in kind. Then he begins a drawn-out circus routine of plucking an olive at a time up and out of the bowl and plopping them onto their respective dishes, one by one.

The delicate, repetitive movement of Eddie’s pinched fingers reminds Buck of picking the petals off of flowers. He loves me. He loves me not. He love—

An olive hits him square in the forehead.

“There,” Eddie says, resolute, as the pitted projectile tumbles to the ground at Buck’s feet. “Equal treatment.”

Or: Buck, Eddie, and the olive theory. Well, in theory.

Eddie follows a newly out-and-proud Buck to a gay bar with a few of Buck's friends one Friday night, after life's spent the last few weeks keeping them apart. He isn't expecting to meet some of Maddie's co-workers, nor is he expecting to get quite so worked up when Buck starts flirting with another guy.

“What’s up with you, Buckaroo?” She laughs, poking his silly cheek.

“I love you,” he says, so sweet, looking even happier just to say it. “So much, Hen. Do- did you know it?”

“Yes,” she says, laugh still in her voice but chest a little tighter. “I know it, Buck.”

He drops his cheek to her shoulder, and then turns his head quick to kiss the spot. “Good. You’re the best. You should know it, a- a hundred- a thousand percent.”

Hen thinks about Buck at a party

I got love to give, and give and give by trysetmeonfire

love me an outsider pov. i have far too many favorite bits for such a short fic!!

Buck is talking, really, low and smiling, and Eddie is listening, looking at him like he personally put every single star in the sky. His thumb rubs little circles against Buck’s hip, and he leans in, sometimes, kisses the corner of Buck’s mouth as he speaks, and every time Buck’s eyes crinkle right up in such a happy smile it half makes her want to cry.

This was early, too, she hadn’t known him all that long, but her heart had ached like she’d loved him for years. She wondered, later, if she’d been borrowing that love from the future. Had known, somehow, what he’d come to mean to her.

Hen believes him, trusts him, knows he’s needed time to learn to be loved, too. Wishes they’d all known each other from the very beginning, so the learning didn’t have to be so hard.

“I think,” he says, watching Karen pull Hen out onto the dance floor, their eyes never leaving each other’s, “I think I’m just—sad.”

Maybe. That feels like a close enough word to describe this gaping maw right in the center of his chest. It’s only really there sometimes, taking little bites out of him, easy enough to ignore, but today is worse.

“About being single at a wedding,” Eddie says, not a question.

Buck shrugs. “Sounds stupid when you put it that way.”

or, the one with the four weddings (feat. a drunk karen wilson, shania twain, a single cheerio, and some confessions over cubed fruit).

as if it were not a lightning bolt that splits your bones by Rosyredlipstick

what an absolutely incredible pair of fics. holy shit. the ending made me cry!!! it’s amazing how much of the canon plot the author was able to “skip” in a canon compliant story. like, not every single beat was rehashed, we don’t get our hands held the whole time. we’re just trusted to follow along with the time skips and catch up to where the characters are. i’m so impressed!!

literally SO many favorite bit, my notes app is chock full of ‘em
