“Well, I guess you got what you wanted from me already,” Hollander continued. “Whatever. Fuck you.”
“Wait, no, Hollander.” Ilya turned, throwing an arm into Hollander’s path. “That’s not—”
“No, it’s fine. Stupid of me to expect anything else.” Hollander shook his head, gaze downcast, the barest hint of angry pink tinging his freckled cheeks. “Thanks for making it good, at least.”
It. His first time.
Ilya was the worst sort of asshole.

Summary
They’re alone at the bar now. No one is watching. He could press a finger to Hollander’s lips, wait for Hollander to open for him. He could slide the pad of his thumb across Hollander’s tongue, tip his chin up, and pour the liquid into his mouth. He could watch the bob of Hollander’s throat as he swallows it down.
Ilya takes a drag from his cigarette instead.
“What?” Ilya asks as Hollander stares him down, not unlike an enraged bull. “You are going to tell me not to smoke? Is Vegas, Hollander. No one cares.”
“Neither do I,” Hollander mutters, turning away toward the bar. “Are you going to give my drink back?”
Ilya glances down at the shot glass in his hand and shrugs. “No. Is mine now.” He throws the shot back, suppressing a wince at the taste of subpar hotel bar vodka. When he looks up again, Hollander is already walking away from him into the sea of brightly colored slot machines.

Summary
“You shouldn’t have to take care of me,” Shane said, voice muffled against Ilya’s shirt.
Something cracked open inside Ilya, an overwhelming need to hold Shane as close as he could and protect him from whatever in the world had made him feel unworthy of care. Shane always took care of people. He carried his team to every victory they claimed, giving so much more than he got in return, and wore the heavy mantle of the Metros’ expectations alone. But it wasn’t just his team. When Ilya’s English failed him, Shane stepped in front of the microphone. When Ilya’s composure failed him, he was a comfort. Even when Shane did not know he was holding Ilya together, the force of his presence was so much more than Ilya knew how to deserve.
Now it was Ilya’s turn. “Let me,” he said into Shane’s hair. “I do not mind.”

Summary
Not all Ilya’s ghosts were welcome. Not all of them were dead, either. The ghost of paternal disappointment was lead in his pocket, dragging him under the surface with each phone call, and the ghost of brotherly envy was kept at bay only by the tether to his bank account. Russia was full of his ghosts, and no matter how he tried, Ilya could not seem to leave them there. Not even a grave would free him of their torment.
No, Ilya knew better. Someone did not have to die for them to haunt him.
And that was what Ilya was: haunted. By Shane fucking Hollander.

OR: After Shane leaves post tuna-melt, Ilya is haunted by the clothes he left behind.

Summary
Shane knew the weight his relationship with Rose carried. It was perfectly balanced, like it was made just for the approximation of his body. He could lift it without strain. No push, no pull.
He wished so badly for it to be her.
That was how Shane found himself at Le Ciel, wrapped in the embrace of bright lights and loud bass. He took precautions to avoid situations that might breach his limits. Situations like this one. The sting of alcohol on the air, the scrape of Rose’s dress on his forearms, the empty pit that yawned open in his stomach at the sight of Ilya Rozanov plundering a woman’s ear with his tongue. It was all too much.
It still wasn’t enough.
--
Or: When Ilya gets into a car accident after leaving the club, Shane rushes to his bedside. Rose connects the dots.

Scott froze. “You have got to be fucking kidding me.”
“What?”
But Kip shouldn’t have bothered asking. As if in slow motion, the trio turned, and recognition dawned on the familiar faces one by one.
“Hunter!” None other than Ilya Rozanov exclaimed in a delighted Russian accent. He wore a pair of sparkly heart shaped sunglasses and mischief draped across his shoulders like a feather boa.
“No fucking way.” Kip’s expression split into a grin. He pulled Scott forward by the hand, bounding over to join the others. “I can’t believe it. What are the odds?”
“Yeah, what are the odds,” Scott muttered, a haunted look in his eyes.

Or: When Scott surprises Kip with tickets to The Eras Tour, they are delighted/chagrined to discover they're sitting next to Ilya, Shane, and Rose.

“He was quoting the album.”
“What album?” Shane asked.
“The new Taylor Swift. You really live under a rock, don’t you?” Rose heaved a sigh. “Poor Ilya. He’s in this all alone.”
“He doesn’t have to be,” Shane muttered. “If he’d just talk to me–”
“Oh, no, honey. You are not equipped for this. No offense, but you haven’t had the hyper-specific experience of Taylor Swift dropping an album that feels like it’s written about your life. Ilya needs a fellow swiftie to help him through this one.”
--
OR: When Ilya listens to The Tortured Poets Department for the first time, it brings up old emotions about the Rose Landry era. Baffled and out of his depth, Shane calls Rose for reinforcements.

Drowning isn’t the worst thing to happen to Lucius Spriggs. Top five. Top eight. Definitely at least top ten.
Somehow, drowning’s not even the worst thing to happen to Lucius this week.
No, that particular honor belongs to an event that comes around midday. Literally. In the most vulgar sense. God, he wishes he was dreaming. And on second thought that would be a nightmare, so actually, no thank you.
Or: Lucius Spriggs spots the co-captains reconciling through the window of the captain's quarters after nearly drowning and hates his life so very very much.

The first time is quick. Ed has been thinking about it for weeks, kissing Stede Bonnet. It is the sort of thing he wants to do right. Though Stede’s never mentioned it in any of their lessons, Ed is certain there is a right way to go about kissing a gentleman. He must wait for the right time, the right place.
But when he finally does it, Ed doesn’t think at all. He is only instinct and hope tangled in a moment where breath is forgotten and the future seems possible.

They do not choose Bolo for the job; Loquatius Seelie does.
The infiltration of Avalir is meant for someone else, as her superiors tell her. It is not inconsequential, the number of times they say she is unfit for such work. She is not beautiful enough to tempt so famous a man as the Herald, she is not skilled enough to accomplish what must be done, and she is not important enough for anyone in Aeor to so much as consider sending her.
But in the end, it does not matter. Her worth is not theirs to decide.
Sent to spy on Avalir and learn their secrets, Bolo from Aeor gets exactly what she came for.

“I may not understand it, and I definitely don’t like it, but for some focking reason that is beyond comprehension, my boss has a weakness when it comes to you. And I’m—” he chokes back bile. “I’m absolutely certain you’re the only person in this whole god forsaken ocean who can talk sense into him. So, get in the focking dinghy.”
Bonnet’s lips twitch ever so slightly into a smile. “Well, maybe if you were to ask me nicely.”
“Get in the dinghy.”
“What’s the magic word?”
Izzy screws up his face, trying to recall anything he’s ever heard about magic. The memory comes to him of some insipid story Bonnet told the crew one night about a girl and a dress and some fucking mice, so he says, “Bipity focking bopity focking doo.”
“I was looking for please, but I suppose that will do.”
After realizing Edward isn't actually better off as Blackbeard, Izzy Hands seeks out the last person on earth he'd like to spend any length of time trapped in a dinghy with: Stede focking Bonnet.

Summary
Stede Bonnet was the first man Mary killed, but he wouldn’t be the last. At the time, she’d thought staging such an elaborate show—or fuckery as Stede called it—would be the hardest part; skewering him would have been much simpler. But no, as it turned out, the most difficult bit about murder wasn’t the murdering. It was the cleanup.
While helping a friend cover up a murder, Mary receives some unexpected assistance from a pirate.

Summary
“Well, that’s a waste, isn’t it?” Ed juts his chin at the plants. “If they don’t flower til they’re practically dead, what’s the point?”
“I don’t know about that.” Stede trails a finger along the petals, worrying his lip between his teeth in thought. “Seems to me flowers are beautiful no matter how long they take to bloom.” His eyes find Ed’s and catch them, murky and warm and searing with kindness of a violent sort.
It’s quite the hostage situation Ed’s found himself in and he doesn’t dare blink.
Stede and Ed come across a flower merchant at the market and Stede has an idea for a team building exercise for the crew.
