Shamelessly re-rebooting Poet at the Door to add in subtext for a plot point I've always wanted to write.
Spike, who has been a vampire for hardly a breath of eternity--less time than Angelus has been following his latest obsession in London--learns that Angelus is going to kill her family in less than a day, after years forcing himself not to listen.It's this that leads him, if misguidedly to her door, to save her, to kill her, to do what he has to to change fate.
Drusilla has been seeing her family's death for five years, and every winter when it snows knows it fast arrives. What comes instead of destruction is a dashing, if cagey suitor, who matches her, verse for verse, in poetry, on whom her and her world's fate hangs.
Drusilla, now standing before him, looked down at her mourning dress with a slow smile, with wonder and a hint of amusement, “It seems I’m at the wrong occasion,” she said, before looking up at him, and telling him, “you weren’t the name writ in the stars tonight, William.”
He smiled at her and said, “I wanted to deny the stars. I thought it was time to take a turn writing them.”

He was the same, obviously. Immortality aside, it’d only been a month.
Your greeting stuttered in your throat, but your friend saw you, hugged you. You locked your gaze on David through the hug, the way one might keep an eye on a prowling grizzly bear for any sudden movement, caught frozen. Did they say to play dead for grizzly bears? You couldn’t imagine that would deter him from digging in.
