Summary
When a horse ran away from the stables, the stable hands got a stern lecture about properly closing the gates.
When the larder was plundered of all cheese, the walls were searched for holes and rat traps placed in all corners.
When the crown jewels were found in the linen cupboards, the guards switched their rotations, and all the laundresses were questioned.
However, it was only when a very familiar book of spells ended up on Arthur’s pillow one morning that Merlin realized something magical might be afoot in Camelot.

“And next to petition…” droned the herald, looking down at his papers. “Welcome Lady Enid Kantor to speak to the court.”
Merlin yawned.
“The lady is here to offer her services…” – a confused look came upon his face – “to the King.”
A murmur rose in among the nobles as a small older woman slowly made her way up the aisle to the throne.
Arthur raised an eyebrow. “You wish to offer me a service?”
“Yes, your majesty, I do.”
Whispers and frowns were interchanged among the nobles, but the Lady Kantor only smiled. “One could say I am an inspector of sorts.”Or: An inspector comes to Camelot to examine the court. Merlin thinks Arthur finally lost his mind.

“They say Emrys tamed the great dragon of Camelot and sired the white dragon of Albion-”
“Sired?” Gwaine interrupted “This Emrys fellow is going around siring dragons? How exactly is that happening? Sex with other dragons?” He asked and despite the situation, Merlin flushed. The man in question blinked, looking equally baffled by the question. From the corner of his eye, Merlin could see Arthur pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Uh…I actually don’t know.”
“But you’re Emrys,” Merlin reminded the imposter with a sigh “You don’t remember siring any dragons?”
“I said it was an off day!” The man complained, trying to cross his arms despite being upside down. Merlin took a long breath. Lancelot had already walked away, but that did nothing to hide his howling laughter.

The knights keep hearing various (dramatic) rumors about the great and mighty Emrys. Everyone is such a gossip. Merlin is trying not to have a heart attack. Lancelot is loving life.

"Uhm,” Crowley said, the epitome of eloquence. “So, I don't know the gavotte. Or whatever other old-timey dance you learned."
"A fox trot?" The saxophone swelled in response.
"Hnng,” he groaned. Bloody foxtrot. “Yeah, alright. Know that one."

“What are you doing here,” is all he can think to say. He whirls around, and there he is. On Crowley’s right, standing there like he’d never left. Where he belongs, Crowley’s mind helpfully supplies. He wishes he could punch himself in the brain, knock the thoughts right on out of there.

Summary
I rewrote the story of the ugly duckling, but JD is the ugly duckling. I also turned this in for theater class. The assignment was to rewrite a chosen story as anything you want and then to read it aloud for the class. So, I wrote, submitted, and performed this piece. If you don't understand yet, I have worked many a moon on this. It is my child.
Also, some of the characters go to different schools in this work of art. It'll make sense when you read it.
