Johnny’s been through a lot of scary situations being on this team. He’s been thrown off buildings, held at gunpoint, faced down gangs and human trafficking rings and any kind of criminal group you can think of—hell, he just faced down a cosmic space god that eats entire planets. But nothing has ever made him feel like this. He’s been thrown off his game, sure, but the idea of losing Sue draws out more fear than he’s ever felt.

Everyone is relieved that Franklin managed to bring Sue back to life, and Johnny is too. But that doesn't mean he's okay, and it doesn't mean he can get the image of her still body on the battlefield out of his head.

As he stares at the motionless body of his mentor, he can’t help but lose all past respect for the color red. It saturates the scene before him—the tarnished red of Tony’s suit, the blood dripping down his face, the small fires scattered throughout the remains of the compound. He’ll never be able to enjoy it in the same way again, not after it’s been tainted in such a jarring way.

18 months after the earthquake, Steve starts having bad dreams. Which wouldn’t mean anything if it weren’t for the nosebleeds and the headaches. Hearing that clock can’t be great. Then Will feels Vecna getting close, and Steve thinks it might be best for him to sacrifice himself. He’s nice like that.

Summary
Bumped to the lowest step on the social ladder after his fight with Billy, Steve gets roped in with the cheer team. What starts as a favor to help them out when one member breaks her leg in turn for protection from the brunt of the bullying, sets the universe on a different path.
He befriends Chrissy and grows as thick as thieves with her. Over the summer he adds Robin to his friends as well. Meanwhile Eddie seems to have taken an interest in the fallen king, but Steve can’t figure out quite yet why Eddie is talking with him. Flirting with him?
AKA a rewrite from after season 2 till after season 4 where Chrissy survives and Steve and Eddie get together that explores Steve's fall to the bottom of the social ladder and the what if he was gay and knew.
