Summary
One-and-twenty years of age and heir to the ancestral seat of Starfall, Florian of House Dayne struggles beneath the expectations of manhood imposed by the world around him. Far from western Dorne, he serves as squire to his cousin, the Lord of Lemonwood, while preparing for an upcoming tourney. But when pamphlets suddenly begin circulating through the town, many aimed squarely at him, they awaken an old sense of 'smallness' he has spent years trying to overcome.
Within the safety of his chambers, however, Florian finds comfort in the company of his lowborn bodyguard and oldest friend, one of the few men around whom he does not feel the need to measure himself. Together, they steal what moments of peace and affection they can before the world comes knocking once more.

Summary
The young lord Florian Dayne is only six-and-ten when he is whisked away from the protection of Starfall. His captor is Renna Wine-Stealer, a notorious Dornish outlaw who once served the Vulture King. More than twice the age of her prisoner, she has little patience for a stripling noble’s naïveté.
To Renna, Florian is more than a hostage worth a king’s ransom. He is a delicate, pliant body she can bend to her depraved whims for a fortnight or more. The gold his captivity promises could purchase her a great ship and carry her beyond the shores of Dorne. Perhaps it could even buy the grander life she has long imagined for herself.
Until that day arrives, Florian remains both hostage and concubine in the hands of a woman determined to carve her future from his ruin.

Are you nervous? Finn wanted to ask, swaying with the wind. Don’t pretend you have any right to be nervous, coward. You are supposed to be the man. Though I will gladly take that from you, if it is too much for you to bear.

“I wish they were dead,” Trystane said softly.
Alicent frowned, unsure of what she’d heard. “Trystane?”
“Jacaerys and Lucerys.” His voice never rose above a whisper, distant and crackly like the ancient oak in the godswood. “I wish they were dead.”
