‘I’ve never been so pleased to see anyone in my life.’ Gale laughs shakily. Then his face crumples. He sobs.
Carefully, Astarion wraps his arms around Gale and pulls him into a hug. ‘You’re safe now,’ he murmurs. ‘I’m not going anywhere.'
Oh gods, the last thing he needs is to fall in love with this idiot.

Summary
Astarion brings a spoonful of soup to Gale’s mouth and Gale can’t help himself--he laughs. It’s not soup at all, really, just a haphazardly cut hunk of boiled potato swimming in plain, starchy water. The potato, implausibly, is charred on one side. The air from Gale's laughter makes tiny droplets of water from the spoon splatter onto his lap.
“What?” Astarion pulls the spoon back, frowning. “Is there something wrong with it?”
"Well, it's never 'wrong' to try," he says, and Astarion narrows his eyes at the platitude. "But by Elminster's beard, what did you--" His voice catches. He coughs, swallows, winces from the searing pain in his throat.
Astarion huffs. “I boiled potatoes and onions in water. The way you make soup. But I won’t make you eat it if you’re going to hurt yourself from laughing at it.”
Trapped in a blizzard in the frozen north, Gale comes down with a cold. Astarion does his best to care for him.

Summary
"Gods... I'm dying..." The vampire says through clenched teeth.
"Not if I can help it, my friend. Oak Father preserve us, we will get you through this." Halsin objects, hovering his palm just over Astarion's chest and successfully keeping him from trying to sit up again.
You brush the back of your hand down the vampire's cheek. He feels almost.. normal? The temperature of his flesh heightened to the heat of a living being. Certainly higher than it should be, but for a moment you can't help but wonder if this is how he would have felt, were his heart still beating. If the two of you had met in another lifetime, is this how it would feel? Would he allow you to touch him like this, tender and soft, to feel the heat of his burning cheeks on your knuckles? Perhaps. His eyes have fluttered shut, rubies hidden beneath a blanket of white snow. Your hand trails down to his chin, hesitant to part from him. From the most beautiful corpse you've ever met.
