Cloud didn't know what to expect when he had been called to the scene. None of the team had ever handled a mer before.
Dripping silver hair, jagged bleeding scales, the burning green eyes, Cloud stared at the mer as he watched the creature shift restlessly the pond that was far too small for his body. The pond was only half full, with his body on full display in the gold lined mansion.
Cloud stepped into the room, holding the tarp and cloth, meeting the creature's exhausted, but infuriated glare. A vicious swipe of the creature's tail splattered water on the floor in front of him, a clear warning not to come any closer.
Stopping in place, Cloud slowly held out the cloth and tarp to show the mer, unfolding it where he stood. The mer's gaze lingered on the metal belts and plastic, before he met Cloud's gaze once more.
"We've come to rescue you," Cloud offered.

… Until you spot that there’s a mass of something in the bathtub, tangled up in the curtain which used to hang over the window above the tub. A window which is now broken, with glass shards of varying sizes littering the floor and the empty parts of the tub.
You think you do what any reasonable person would do. You yelp, though thankfully it's not very loud. Your grip on the bat loosens a bit, because at first, you feel a flood of relief, thinking that this thing is just a pile of snakes or a nest of weird little creatures that somehow made their way into your house.
Then, you hear a gasp coming from the direction of the amorphous thing currently occupying your bathtub, and everything moves in sync, and you realize that this whole thing is a living being.
This time, you scream.

Lilynette sleeps curled up against his side. They sleep more often than not. Starrk treasures her warmth beside him and the feeling of her small chest heaving up and down— because there’s never been anything else, and without her, there would be nothing. When she asks how long they’ll be alone, he doesn’t know how to answer. He wants to ask the same thing.
It’s like that for longer than he can track. Just the darkness, himself, and Lilynette. No one comes for them and no one else is there.

So they walk. Alone in the empty whiteness of Hueco Mundo, they pretend for a little bit like things were the way they used to be.
And then, Lilynette sees the body.
“Hey, Starrk, there’s someone over there!” she calls out, then promptly goes tearing off through the sand. Starrk tries to yell after her, but soon sees that she’s right. There’s a body lying prone in the sand.
When he catches up, Lilynette has rolled the body onto its side. Halfway covered in sand as it is, something quickly becomes apparent. There’s no mask in sight, and no hole visible-- but at the same time, there’s not enough reiatsu for this to be a Shinigami. It clicks in Starrk’s head abruptly; this is a human. A human in Hueco Mundo, who somehow hasn’t been eaten yet. A human who’s entirely unconscious in the sand.

Maybe it's the sheer amount of mora they've spent on you (or, if you're being honest, the sheer amount that Childe has spent on you) that's making you confused. If you didn't know any better, you would think that they were trying to date you.
All the signs are there. They feed you, clothe you, buy you things that bring you joy just because they delight you, and are extremely attentive to your needs. Both of them take time out of their busy schedules as bank and funeral parlor consultants (and whatever a Fatui is) to make sure that you're settled and comfortable. For instance, Childe keeps walking you to your storytelling gigs and Zhongli keeps feeding you off of his own plate.
People don't do that for no reason and without caring about the other person.
But both of them at once?
