“Don’t do something stupid, Pete.”
Maverick nods, jaw flexing, flicking his eyes away from Nick’s face.
The hands on his arm tighten significantly. Shakes him a little.
“I’m dead serious, Pete. Don’t do…” Nick sighs, shakes his head, restarts. “Just. Think, first.”
Mav stares right up at Goose, doesn’t move, stays just as tense and mad as he’s been all night, target-locked. He feels like a rattlesnake, staring up at something big and mean that wants to step on him, wants to hurt him.
Goose sighs. Lets him go. Maverick is out the door and on his bike before Goose can change his mind.
(Maverick and Viper have an agreement, when Maverick feels like a loose canon and needs a little help being reigned in. It works, mostly, except for when it doesn't. This is when it doesn't.)
