That’s not what it means at all. He’s confirming that he’s heard Frank correctly. That he’s understanding the meaning beneath the words.
Frank nods, “Could you be mad at me instead?” He asks again, dropping his hands to his sides. “Because I’m mad at me. I’m just… I’m just mad. Except I’m not really mad at all. I’m- I’m sad, and I hurt, and I want to be mad, but I can’t, so I need you to be mad for me.”
