Summary: It'd been 11 years since Zuko was banished. The war waged on, and the avatar had yet to be seen or heard of. With no crew, no Uncle, and no place to call home, Zuko struggled to survive outside a war-tattered Ba Sing Se. Between the Fire Nation skirmishes and the muggers of the Lower Ring, every day alone had been a battle.
So when a ruffian group of rag-tag fighters came along, offering him a spot among the ranks and the shield of safety in numbers, Zuko was both wary and drawn.

In another life, Zuko watches him get dragged away by the Dai Li and feels justified, and then a surge of rage and shame and fear that he can’t quite place, and then he moves on.
In this life, Jet doesn’t see a thing, and Zuko drop-kicks most of his own pride into the gutter in a fit of customer-service-based despair. In this life, Jet keeps calling Zuko “Li” and slinks around the tea shop in the lower ring where Zuko has started working, like he’s a customer.]
