Summary
All Merlin was expecting was a night off, maybe he'd have a glass of wine or read a book later, but for now he was content to sit by fire with his mending. He wasn't expecting a surly Arthur to come back to his rooms hours before he was due, his foul mood caused by some stupid Lord or other laughing at the surprising fact that (or at least Merlin thought so) the Prince was still a virgin. Even more surprising was that Arthur took Merlin's advice on the matter, arranging a tryst with a recently widowed Lady so-and-so, only for him to realize too late what a stupid idea that was.
Since he can't cancel now, Arthur demands Merlin teach him everything he knows about sex, which definitely isn't another stupid idea and definitely won't lead to at least one (or both) falling in love.

Summary
For a split second that lasts eons, Arthur exists in that horribly weightless space before gravity conquers, and then he's falling. Distantly, he hears Merlin cry out his name in panic, and then he’s bracing himself for impact.
An impact that never comes.
Silently hoping, begging, for anything but what he knows he’s about to see, Arthur turns his head to look.
And sees Merlin, hand outstretched, and eyes ablaze with gold.

Faced with the revelation of Merlin's secret and a sudden internal war between duty and sentiment, Arthur must make a decision that will affect both of their fates. The shape of a man takes a familiar form the closer he gets, but also foreign in his haggard state. And there is a touch of death to him, a smell of decay only the arcane can bring upon a person, and yet the first words out of his mouth are, “Viktor, are you okay?”
If Viktor could get his construct to laugh, he would probably be laughing now, the miserable kind that might bring with itself tears. But he doesn’t remember how to do any of that.

OR: The arcane chews them up and spits them out somewhere unknown and far away from home. Jayce is dying and Viktor can't let that happen, but there are significant obstacles in his way. One, his power is diminished. Two, his touch is making Jayce's condition worse. Three, there's something wrong with him, too.
