Cross felt heat on his cheekbones as he carefully handed the paper to Dream, “I… well… I wanted to write you something! A poem! I uh… I hope it’s… good…” Cross murmured, scratching the back of his head with his free hand.
”Oh…” Dream replied quietly, accepting the paper with shaking hands.
While Cross was not an empath like his boyfriend, it was easy to tell something was wrong.
”Dream? Is everything alright?” Cross asked, reaching out a hand.
“Oh, Cross…” Dream sobbed as he gripped the paper so tight it crinkled.
“I can’t read…”

Six days. Hours upon hours of sleepless nights and exhausting days. Rest avoided Cross like the plague. No matter how tired he was, he couldn’t fall asleep. He hadn’t let anyone know, of course. It was unprofessional for a soldier to struggle with something so simple as sleep.
