So. Not stealing.
But there is nothing wrong with giving Chernysh all the pats and treats that he deserves, is there?
Nothing wrong with encouraging Chernysh to spend more and more time at Ilya's house until he doesn't even remember who Hollander is.
Because Hollander is stupid and boring and does not deserve a dog as good as Chernysh. No, he doesn't, does he? Because Chernysh is the best boy in the whole world, yes he is.

It’s perhaps the sweetest Svetlana has ever known Ilyusha to be. Summary
The resemblance hit Yuna like a punch to the gut. The same honey-colored curls, though hers were styled in a gorgeous twist at the back of her head. If Yuna could see past all of the times Ilya’s nose had been broken and re-healed, she imagined it would look something like the woman’s in front of her. And those eyes - a mix of hazel and gold with tiny flecks of green if you looked close enough. Ilya must have gotten his strong jaw from his father, because this woman’s features were narrow and sharp. Stunning.
When she smiled, it looked so like Ilya’s that Yuna could have cried.
“Irina,” she said.
“Yuna,” Irina said, bowing her head politely.

Summary
Love is miserable, Ilya thinks. It's dirty work. It fights worse than an MLH enforcer with a drinking problem and seven missing teeth. It'll toss you about and break your bones and leave you bleeding out on the ice.
He's been in love twice, and both times he fucked it.
The first time, he hadn't even known what it was until it was gone. He had learned its shape from the hole it left behind. Hollander had gone. Poof, whoosh, like a ghost. All that was left was the man on the ice, jaw tense and eyes dead, who played like Ilya was a bug to be crushed. Ilya tried to play so dirty Hollander would throw down his gloves and then they could at least touch each other again, fist to face, but all he got was decked by a series of troglodytes in Metros jerseys.
