    “Aww Shane,” Ilya coos out as he looks at one of the goats that had just joined them, this one on the outskirts of the battle for food, “look, that one looks like you.”

    Shane did not, under any reasonable interpretation of reality, look like a goat.

    “What?” he said, the words coming out equal parts offended and amused as he followed Ilya’s gaze. “No it doesn’t.”

    Shane is trying his best to be more comfortable being out with his and Ilya's relationship. His solution? finally start taking Ilya out on actual dates, which begins at a petting zoo.

    “It’s-it’s complicated.” He catches the present tense too fucking late to do anything about it, and he barely resists the urge to either groan or slip forward to start beating his head against the coffee table.

    Fuck his fucking life.

    “You’re still…seeing this person?” His mom asks, and the amount of control he can hear her exerting is almost painful. “Who is-”

    “Yuna,” his dad cuts in, voice quiet, “maybe give him a second, yeah?”

    Yeah, Shane agrees in his head. Give him a second.

    Maybe give him a decade while they’re at it.

    (when shane's old fake id falls out of his wallet around his parents, he has to explain that it was to book hotel rooms before he was 21)

    (...and then he has to explain why he needed to book those hotel rooms in the first place)

    Cliff gapes at him.

    In which the hit that Cliff Marleau had on Shane Hollander goes a little different. For one, they’re in Boston. For another, Ilya realizes he might be panicking? Which is probably not something to do in the middle of a game. And, oh yeah, he just outed both himself and his not-boyfriend to an entire locker room of hockey players.

    But that’s okay, because while Boston may be vicious, they do take care of their own. And they quickly realize that their captain’s happiness and willingness to stay with the Bears is tied to Shane Hollander. The solution is easy, they’ll just have to make Shane Hollander a Bear.

    Really too many people called Ilya an asshole when Shane was just as bad, or worse. Shane just hid it better, because Canada’s perfect golden boy could do no wrong.

    Ilya moved to cross his arms over his chest and lean back against the headboard, hating how it put even more space between them, but not being able to let Shane think he was right.

    “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

    “Sure you don't, baby.”

    Ilya was definitely not starting to turn the slightest shade of red.
