Suddenly, a wisp of light.
It is familiar, comforting, inviting. It urges him, frantic yet gentle as it pushes him towards the surface.

Bright blue eyes blink at him like a lighthouse in the night, cutting through the darkness and fog, guiding him back home.“How long are you gonna let yourself be used like this, Suguru?”
Those words feel like a punch to the gut. He starts thrashing and struggling against the black quicksand trapping him.
It hurts. It hurts so much. Still he keeps pushing. Because Satoru needs him.Finally, he is free.
He looks up and finds himself face to face with Satoru, who is still kneeling with his hands tied behind his back by the Prison Realm and is looking straight back at him.
All the defiance and aggression from earlier is gone from his eyes, replaced instead by a familiar softness.

There is no clear moment, not really, but there is one that sticks out in his mind, when he knew with a sickening sort of thud inside him, a punch to the jaw in an anything goes bare-fist fight, no chance to hide his weak spots in the aftermath.
“No.” Suguru says, enunciating carefully, as though his lack of diction is the issue.
“But Suguru,” Satoru whines, heavy on the last syllable, and Suguru can feel Shoko shift beside him.
“Why do you say his name like that?” She snips before Satoru can continue with his impassioned plea or Suguru can try to intercede, cut him off. “Just say it normal, be normal.” She kicks out and misses Satoru, standing at the edge of the bed, and hits Suguru, who grunts in response. “Oops.”
Suguru waves it off.
“When is he ever normal?” He asks, rolling his eyes at her. Shoko snorts out a laugh, her leg resting over Suguru’s shin, a comforting warmth.
“So true.” Shoko responds, flicking open her phone.
“I’m literally right here.” Satoru practically shouts, tossing his sunglasses haphazardly onto Suguru’s bedside table, “terrible friendship, terrible friends,” and Suguru closes his eyes because he knows what is coming next, “Suguru,” Satoru whines again.

The technique of a sorcerer stains itself into their very skin with trails of swirling ink, images crafted to fit their very soul, the external tale of the internal curse.
Always ever changing with every curse Suguru consumed, Satoru only ever had a moment to memorize the fleeting patterns he got to catch a glimpse of, whenever they had a moment to themselves.
Satoru was never quite able to let Suguru's go. Satoru has never been very good at letting anything go.
(Or, the phrase ‘cursed techniques are engraved into the body’ is a little more literal than originally intended.)

The guy that comes in every Thursday is sexy as hell. Ren sits up, smooths his hair–grimaces at the workday grease that’s settled at the roots–and calls a croaky welcome. The guy raises a hand in acknowledgement and beelines for the ice cream freezer. Ren watches him from behind the counter, fiddling with a display of little keychains that offers poor cover for him to peer out from. The guy is so tall, all long limbs and flowing lines. There is a clumsy grace that is alluring and kinda cute when he leans down to peer at the selection of ice cream. His hair is so white, silky, lit up by the ugly lights. His skin, fuck his skin, not a blemish, perfect under fluorescent light that turns Ren’s face sallow. Ren thinks he’s his age. Sixteen or seventeen. God Ren hopes he’s his age. The guy frowns, it’s a pout, his mouth is plump and shiny. It makes Ren’s stomach clench, heat rising on his cheeks as the guy pulls out his regular and a plain vanilla cone.
