Summary
Dr. Lando Norris and Dr. Oscar Piastri are finally together.
Unfortunately, this turns out to be far more emotionally stressful than yearning through clinical notes.
Because Oscar is jealous now.
Lando finds this deeply entertaining.
The hospital has become unbearable about it.Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz is accidentally testing Oscar’s limits by being charming around Lando, Charles Leclerc is losing a deeply personal battle against George Russell’s existence, and Max Verstappen continues to behave like a man who has never once recognized an emotion in his life.

Summary
He keeps Sophie strapped to his chest as he walks through the pit lane. It is loud and chaotic, and stinks of burning rubber and carbon fibre. Fuck, it smells good. Sophie keeps on blowing raspberries, spit flying, but hey, at least she is keeping herself occupied. Max keeps walking, and everyone lets him pass. He feels people stop in their tracks and turn around to stare at him. Each garage going quiet as he passes, and then the next, and then the next. Some pup drops the wheel gun as he whirls around, mouth dropped to the floor.
Of course.
No one has seen Max Verstappen in four years.

Charles doesn’t know how old Max is. Five and twenty, at least. No wonder Lorenzo is fearful. Heat courses shorten and burn out quicker with age. After four years of marriage an omega should’ve long since whelped. It is no surprise then that everyone seems so excited for his marriage and mating. The Lords of Ferrari praying for his happiness, and the whelping of healthy children it should lead to.
If only they had found someone prettier.

Charles opens the door in his work out shorts and giant hoodie, half of his hair smooshed to the side of his head while the other sticks straight up. He's frantically trying to smooth it with one hand as he swings the door wide with the other, but gets distracted by Max standing there, red-cheeked and trying to pretend he isn’t panting.
The cloud of rainpancakesearthsyrup floods into his apartment, making Charles blink dazedly. It’s so fucking good. He can’t help but gasp a bit, surprised.
Max takes a final deep, almost heaving breath and shoots his arm out straight in front of him, a dark blue hoodie clenched in his fist. “Here.”
Charles doesn’t reach for it. He eyes Max, the sheen of sweat along his hairline, the fit of his relatively but not egregiously skinny jeans.
“Did you—did you run here?”
Max grimaces a little, then shrugs. “Brought this for you.”
*
Charles has spent the last 28 years highly sensitive to smell, usually to the detriment of his own well-being. So what if Max’s presence—and scent—have always helped with that?
So what if this is the year Max finally notices?

Charles's eyelashes flutter as he glances at Max, still watching.
The man seems to notice his distraction and turns back to try to see what has caught Charles's eye. He lets out a short hum, not letting up.
"You're mine tonight, no?" Charles nods enthusiastically and moans half into the man's mouth, but he's lying. He’s always lying.
There's only one person he belongs to.OR: Charles has always been in love with someone who won't love him back.

Ollie awoke expecting pain. All he’d known these past weeks? months? years? was pain. Ever since Kimi had been caught stealing fish because he was just that hungry, ever since Ollie had taken the fall for it, ever since that first blow fell…
But this time, something was different. The pain was there, yes, but it felt muted, distant. Like viewing a raging inferno through thick, frosted glass. Ollie blinked sluggishly, his eyelids heavy as if weighted with lead. The world around him swam in and out of focus, colours bleeding into one another in a nauseating swirl.
He tried to lift his head, but his body refused to obey. His limbs felt leaden, unresponsive. A creeping sense of panic began to seep through the fog clouding his mind. Something was wrong.
-=-
A life pampered of luxury. It was public knowledge that was the fate of a Victor. No such fate awaited Ollie, mutilated to a shell of himself, a skin he didn't recognise, a person he was never meant to be. This wasn't him. This was never meant to be him.
ft. the cost of winning, the cost of loving, and the cost of surviving. Regardless, the price is too damn high.

The video kept looping, George hated every second of it but he couldn’t make himself stop watching. He couldn’t get over Lewis’ smirk at the camera as he said, “Still looking younger than you,” followed by Charles’ chuckle and low “Yes, you are,” and the way Lewis turned around smiling and then touched Charles’ so warmly across the chest, in a gesture that spoke of a rapport that George had never managed to develop with him.
George finds a way to keep an eye on Lewis even after he stops being his teammate.

“I’m very sorry to even be asking you this,” Charles starts, looking uncomfortable but determined. He reaches out for Oscar’s hand again, almost unthinkingly. Oscar holds it out to him in turn without considering a single alternative.
What is he supposed to do? Not give Charles Leclerc his hand when he gestures for it? Likely fuckin’ story, that.
Once he steps close, Charles lets him go, hands folded demurely in his lap while looking up at him with his cartoonishly sparkling big green eyes.
“But you are very sweet and kind and you smell very good and you are here—I know you have a girlfriend and you are both cute and in love, but do you think she would mind if you fucked me, just for tonight?”

Or, Charles gets drugged at the bar and goes into an unexpected pre-heat. Oscar helps.

Lewis says this too, unable to keep the thought inside of his brain now that he’s had it. He wants to say something too earnest about Ferrari—about Charles—bringing the joy back into racing for him this year. Instead, he says, “We look fucking fantastic together out there,” like he’s some twenty year old rookie trying to charm Charles into a drink at the bar.
He's lucky, because it works.
Charles, who is taller than him by a good handful of inches, leans down over him like a flower toward the sun. His eyes have gone kind of hazy.
Of course he’d be like this, Lewis thinks. The way the thought snaps into his belief system feels good. Feels right. Makes something low in his belly heat up and one of his hands drift toward Charles' waist. All that fire, all that drive. Of course he wants someone to make him bend down, to lean close, to give him quiet, gentle pointers and tell him how good he’s doing.

Summary
Oliver Bearman is dying, technically. It’s not dramatic. Just slow. Quiet. Petal by petal, confession by non-confession, the way all hanahaki deaths go when you love someone who might never love you back. His lungs bloom with the ache of unspoken words, and all of them carry the same name—Charles. Too afraid to ruin the fragile thing they already have, Ollie says nothing.
A story about found family, emotionally repressed dads, and all the ways love goes unsaid—until it doesn’t. Featuring: floral vomit, BBQ night lore, a very serious bucket, and three people who loved Charles enough to bleed petals for it.

Of course he needs him.
Charles needs Max Verstappen like he has always needed Max Verstappen, like he will always need Max Verstappen. Charles needs Max like the air he breaths, like the water he drinks, like the gravity that steadies his feet. There is no Charles without Max, and no Max without Charles. Planet Earth only survived sixteen days of Max without bringing Charles into the world too. Planet Earth is so much stronger than him.
A thin red string tied around the foot of a chubby blonde baby boy laying in a crib in Hasselt, running across rivers and valleys and fields, through Belgium and Luxembourg and the freezing cold Alps, knotting and twisting until it found itself looped around the ankle of a squalling, red faced baby boy in Princess Grace Hospital, Monaco.
And then little Charles had looked at him across a wet karting circuit and that string had knotted tight, but he hadn’t understood the feeling at the time. Fate screaming at him that there, right there, that is your soulmate, and you will love him until the day that you die.
You have to. You have no choice.

Summary
rival (n.) from Latin rivalis — one who shares a river. Originally: a neighbour at the waterline, drawing from the same source. Not an enemy. Someone who knows exactly how much you need, because they need the same thing.
Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have been sharing a river for fifteen years. A journalist finally writes it down. He brings a translator to help. Mariana Cavalcanti speaks French, Dutch, and Portuguese, and knows the difference between what a person says and what they mean. She makes three small decisions that are not small at all.
Two weeks later, the piece runs. Then the phone calls start.
Or: in which a translation goes perfectly, which is the problem.
