the apartment is quiet as you arrive home in the way only evenings can be quiet, when the city hasn’t slept quite yet but has loosened its grip. traffic hums far below, softened by height and distance, and the windows hold the last traces of the sunset like a held breath. katsuki is already home when you kick off your shoes, jacket sliding from your shoulders and onto the back of a chair. he’s at the counter with his sleeves rolled up, palms braced on the cool stone as he stares down at a cutting board like it’s personally offended him.
“you’re late,” he grumbles, not looking up.
“you knew i’d be late,” you answer, adjusting your shoes into a neat line beside the entrance. “you told me to take my time.”
