A month long road-trip to California, stopping at all the cheesy tourist stops — the worlds biggest ball of yarn, a shady dinosaur museum — Leon making bad jokes at each of them, that would nevertheless have her doubled over with laughter. It was a pipe dream, of course. Even if Leon miraculously got enough leave it make it possible, her father would lock her up in the White House before ever letting her go. But even just a day at the beach. They could rent surfboards and swim in water that was way too cold. And she wouldn't have to worry if he was alive or not. Wouldn't have to worry if he still cared…"

Ashley manages to pull some strings to get Leon enough leave for the two of them to go on a road-trip together for her summer break. But of course nothing can be that easy, as their own demons and outside forces threaten to bring what was supposed to be a much needed break for the both of them to an abrupt end.

"Leon's eyes refocused on vast expanse of the ocean in front of him, a bit more awake, the light breaking through the clouds hitting the swells, turning the water jewel tones of blue and green, the foaming mist pearls to crown them. It almost felt…wrong, the sight of it. After a day — a few days? he had lost count — of blood, gore, and twisted, deformed horrors that at times sent a shiver down even his spine, it didn't feel like he was allowed to look at something so serene. The way the light danced over the the water, sparkling, the beams of it visible as it shone through the clouds, a technically beautiful sight that only made something uncomfortable squirm in his chest, like the phantom of the plaga he had been injected with, it so desperately wanting to be remembered. Well, it didn't have to worry in that regard, Leon would be remembering that feeling for a good long while."

Penelope's face scrunched in confusion for a brief moment, before it too dawned on her, eyes lighting up with a glint of hope. It was her turn to take to pacing, springing to her feet, fingers tapping against her thighs as she flitted to a fro.
"Madness… It could work! If the greatest mind of Achaea is ruined, unable to conjure up clever plans —"

Summary
Penelope has been on Ithaca for a month now, and her adjustment had not been going as she expected. The land is different, steep and difficult to navigate, and the people... they speak of her behind her back, harsh words for her, questioning her for trying making Ithaca her home. Insecurity bleeds into her heart as she desperately tries to combat what she has named as weakness within her, trying to make it so her dear Odysseus will not lose the respect of his people. Odysseus notices her pain, and goes to remedy it... in more ways than one.
