Summary
David passed Shane’s childhood bedroom on his way to bed and stopped. Shane was standing by the dresser, turning something over in his hands. The warm-up puck, David recognized instantly, the one Scott Hunter had given him all those years ago.
“A brave thing he did today,” David said lightly, testing to see what Shane would be comfortable engaging with him on.
Thankfully, Shane smiled. It was soft and distant, but it was there when he replied softly, “hope it’ll give others the chance to be brave too.”
David nodded once. Then, carefully, he added, “but they don’t have to be. No one has to do what Hunter did. Not if they don’t want to.”

Summary
Ilya caught Scott’s eye and gave a microscopic shake of his head.
“It’ll be okay,” Ilya’s eyes said, “he’s confused, but he’ll be okay.”
Scott nodded, accepting the logic. Ilya knew Shane’s patterns better than anyone. If Ilya was sure that all Shane needed was a bit of space, Scott would give it. Climbing into bed beside Kip, Scott wrapped an arm around his own husband, even though his eyes remained fixed on the rigid line of Shane’s back in the dark.
He fell asleep with a nagging sense of unease, wondering if he had simply misread Shane’s exhaustion signals.

Summary
Scott knew the boys’ moods well enough by now to know that giving them the chance to gravitate back towards each other would be counter-productive to everything that they wanted to achieve tonight - namely, getting their minds off things. If left to their own devices, Scott knew that Shane would get lost in Ilya’s present stormcloud, and Ilya, in turn, would try to stoically shoulder the burden for both of them until he collapsed. They needed to be separated and get some much needed attention doted upon them individually, to truly settle down.

Summary
“Shane,” Scott managed, his voice strangled, “this is intense. Are you sure this is the reference material we want to use?”
“It’s my favorite,” Shane had mumbled, refusing to look up from the deck boards. The confession was barely audible, though no longer at risk of being drowned out by the synthetic grunts emanating from the phone.
“I watch it. A lot,” Shane continued, “I know how it looks, but...I want that. I want to be that full.”
The embarrassment radiating off him was palpable, but underneath it was the thread of desire that Scott couldn't ignore. This wasn't just a passing fantasy, but rather something that Shane desperately wanted from them, and had been dissecting in the privacy of his own mind, perhaps for years, preparing himself for the moment he asked for the reality.

Summary
And that was the crux of all this, wasn’t it? Scott couldn’t play rough with Shane, no matter how much he wanted it. He was getting better at truly trusting Kip’s limits, and Scott thought that he was learning Ilya’s pretty well as well, but Shane? When they were playing like this? When Shane was his Rook and he was Shane’s Daddy? He couldn’t.
So when Shane had begged him for more, just that morning, trying to force himself back onto Scott’s cock harder and harder, Scott had pinned him down and fucked him well. Not rough, not even particularly hard, just thoroughly. But that hadn’t satisfied Shane. Only a few hours later and he was practically begging for it once again, and well, if Scott couldn’t give Shane what he needed…

Summary
“Good to see you,” Kip said, pushing his glasses up his nose once Scott set him down, “did Shane put you to work today?”
“A little,” Scott said, “but I didn’t mind.”
He caught Shane smiling at them then, that soft, unguarded grin that only ever appeared when Shane was watching people he trusted, and Scott saw the thought forming there now - the same one that surfaced every time they were all together like this these days. How strange it was that this was where things had landed. None of them had ever aimed for this, exactly, and yet here they were, settled into it all the same.
Scott had assumed that Kip would want a little time alone with him when he arrived. Kip, apparently, disagreed.

Summary
When they pulled into the garage of their house in Ottawa, Ilya gently prodded Shane to, “shower, get yourself ready.”
Of course, that could mean just about anything, and that was why Ilya phrased it that way. If Shane wanted quiet, wanted to cuddle in the quiet, he could pull on his most ridiculous flannel pajamas and curl in close. But if Shane wanted him, wanted the one language that never failed between them anymore, then Shane knew what he had to do.
And Ilya had a sense that he already knew what Shane would choose.

Summary
“There was an incident in the infirmary,” the guard said flatly, “Gallagher’s been transferred to Cook County.”
Mickey knew what that meant, everyone did. If the infirmary couldn’t handle it, if they went to the trouble of calling an ambulance and shipping him out, it wasn’t stitches or a busted rib. It was bad. Bad enough that he needed a real hospital. A real doctor. Real help.
---
After surviving an attack in the infirmary, Ian is left with a traumatic brain injury that changes everything. Released into Lip and Tami’s care, he struggles through recovery while Mickey remains trapped behind bars, desperate for answers and powerless to help. Even as the possibility of parole draws closer, Mickey can’t shake the fear - when he finally gets out, what kind of life, what kind of Ian, will be waiting for him?

Summary
Thomas’s chest tightened - could it be possible?
The idea was absurd, he told himself, it was impossible, and yet his mind betrayed him, returning to that makeshift stage in France, to the sight of Ruby’s painted lips parting as she sang.
His rational mind scolded him for even entertaining the thought. A certain flair in one's manner did not make this man Ruby, nor anyone else from Thomas’s past. But still, the resemblance in presence, if not entirely in feature, gnawed at him.
Perhaps it was only his own wishful thinking, some desperate attempt to stitch together his loose fragments of memory from the war with the present, and perhaps Thomas was just trying to drag Ruby out of the shadows of his imagination and give her shape again.

Summary
“Wow,” Mickey whispered simply because he couldn’t help it.
This wasn’t everything he’d ever wanted, not really. He’d wanted a real dick, he’d wanted to be a real man, but if this was as close to that as he was going to get, for the time being at least, he was going to fucking enjoy this, and he was going to make it good for Ian.
If anyone deserved it, it was his husband.

Summary
Ian had gotten good at palming a candy bar without Kash noticing. He’d done it so many times that he could almost convince himself Kash didn’t know, but deep down he figured the older man saw everything that moved in his store. Kash never said a word though, and when he glanced up from the counter there was always something in his eyes.
Sometimes, if Kash seemed to believe that he’d had too many snacks during his shift, the older man would tap the hard-sided black kit that Linda made Ian put up on the back counter of the Kash & Grab when he arrived, reminding him that his blood glucose meter was always there, always behind the register. A little nudge for Ian to test before he left.
Ian pretended to be annoyed by it, but the truth was he liked the attention, and he liked someone looking out for him who wasn’t Lip.
It hadn’t always been like this, and Ian could still remember, however fuzzy it was, the first time he got sick, truly sick, when he was seven.

Summary
Anthony knew he was dying.
He’d known for a while now, though for a time he’d tried to pretend otherwise. It began as little things, like a cough that wouldn’t leave him, bruises that took too long to fade, the horrible type of fatigue that sat deep in his chest no matter how long he slept. Anthony didn’t need a test to tell him what came next.
But if he had a few days left, weeks maybe, he wasn’t going to spend them on a ward, waiting to fade away under white sheets. The antiseptic smell, the hollow voices in the corridor, the way the few nurses who were actually willing to tend to people like them spoke in gentle tones that always meant there’s nothing we can do.
Anthony didn't want that.

Summary
Mickey set the black box on the counter and pulled the lid open. Inside, cushioned in crumpled brown paper, was the packer.
Ian leaned forward a little without meaning to. It looked real. Not porn-real, or fake-plastic-real, but human real. The colour was right, that slight olive tone Mickey had under his skin, with just enough pink at the tip that Ian’s brain short-circuited for a beat.
If he didn’t know better, if he hadn’t been standing right there watching Mickey unwrap it, he might’ve said he was back in his EMT days, walking in on the aftermath of an unfortunate woodworking accident. That was how startlingly convincing it was - soft silicone with discoloured veins just faintly visible beneath the surface, the weight and texture exactly right.

Summary
It had been so long since this, so long, and even though they were in their cell, even though this was theoretically safe, this wasn’t safe. Prison never was. So Mickey made the call, though not in so many words, that they couldn’t do it the way that they did when they were stupid kids who were just dumb enough to fuck in the back room of Kash’s store without worrying about anything.

Summary
Ian knew Mickey was right, that they couldn’t keep their boys locked away from the world. They could only stand guard, keep the doors open, and hope it was enough.
Nightmares, old ghosts, and the reality of parenthood collide as Ian wrestles with memories of his own past and the reality of raising a teenager who is now the same age he once was when shit really started to go south. Still, Ian and Mickey manage to navigate what it means to keep their boys safe while letting them grow.
Or, sex-ed, Shameless style.

Summary
It wasn’t the work Thomas had imagined for himself, but then again, he’d long since stopped imagining a future for himself. The shop was tucked between a tailor and a laundress, modest and clean, with a single window filled with braces and straps and pieces of mannequins wearing assorted items. Hands with brass knuckles, knees of jointed steel, feet shaped from rosewood. It was a workshop for ghosts, Thomas thought, a place where broken bodies came to be reassembled.
The war had ended, but for Thomas, peace had arrived in random shards. Dismissed from Downton without references, he drifted through Leeds and York, carrying luggage, cleaning alleys, surviving. His bad hand ached and curled in on itself, his pride following suit. Having finally been offered a job in a prosthetics workshop, Thomas manages to find something he hadn't dared imagine and begins to build himself up again.

Summary
He hadn’t looked inside it in years, though he carried it wherever he lived, from Yorkshire attics to now, improbably, a sun-warmed bedroom in Hancock Park. He didn’t know if he’d become observant again, but he knew this: he wasn’t alone anymore
After leaving Downton and returning to America with Guy, Thomas finds himself confronting a part of himself long buried - his Jewish upbringing, packed away at fourteen and nearly forgotten through war, and through service. In the quiet hum of their new life, Thomas’s small wooden box begins to open something deeper - a reckoning with faith, memory, and the man he's becoming, at the side of someone who chooses him again and again.

Summary
Kinard paused, gear half out of his locker as he asked, “picture in your lid?”
Buck froze and his grip tightened on his helmet, not even daring to breathe.
“Air Force guys used to do that,” Kinard went on, like he was talking to the air, “photos of their girls. Kids. Hell, I knew one guy kept a picture of his dog in there, swore it kept him alive.”
Buck tried to laugh, tried, but it came out thin and wrong as he croaked out, “yeah, something like that.”
Kinard turned then, and his eyes flicked to the helmet for just a second too long and Buck felt the panic spike in his throat. At this point it had to be obvious. The dress uniforms, Kelly - a man - standing so close to Buck that he could have kissed him. There was no playing it off, no squinting and pretending that it wasn't a wedding photo between two grooms tucked into the webbing of Buck's helmet.
