The children never were extraordinary, the kids knew, Reginald didn't. He was completely sure he was training superheroes in order to prevent the end of the times, but society didn't understand that and he was lucid enough as to know they would take his soldiers away if they knew about his...methods. That's why he is forced to raise the children in a hidden house in the middle of nowhere. Everything works out as planned until the day Number 5 walks through the front door and never comes back and suddenly the FBI is involved.

About the Criminal Minds side of the story, there shouldn't be anything in the text that spoils the series, I chose that season just in case, but i just wanted to include the characters that I liked the most, not their story. Yet again, they don't appear in the first chapter so I'll update this if needed. For now, it doesn't matter if you dont know the series, they're just names. -

Enjin never found Zanka at the bottom of the well. The boy who crawled out was not reborn, not encouraged, and definitely not a Giver. He goes home, and now knows he is nothing.
He grows into a fine and respectable Nijiku Son, serving under his Sister’s command. When the Giver HQ reports losing a new member to a kidnapping attempt while taking down the largest trash beast seen in 6 years, Zanka follows his sister to discuss retrieving the boy. He thinks it will be a route mission—that is, until he’s enlisted to find the boy. Right alongside the Givers he hates.

The water tribe siblings stand tall besides him, a stern look on their faces. They're dressed in black, no indication of their roots other than the small beads adorning their hair and the tan color of their skin.
“You're the Fire Prince, right?”.
His body clenches at the title. “Zuko”, he offers. “There's no fire prince”.
The girl’s face stiffens, but when the boy -Sokka, a memory from years ago resurfaces- speaks, his voice is softer. “Zuko”, he repeats the name, and it makes Zuko's fingers numbly tingle. He tells himself it's from the cold.
-Or, The Fire Nation loses the war before the Avatar’s return. Aang cannot restore balance without starting another one. Ergo, a blazing revolution.

“Well,” the man starts again, like none of that just passed through Rudo’s head, like he didn’t almost bolt across the table. He clears his throat, then flashes a small, easy smile. “Guess introductions are in order.”
Rudo doesn’t return it.
“Name’s Enjin,” he says. “I work with foster care and CPS. I take care of kids in situations like yours.”
The words land heavy. Cold. They sink into Rudo’s chest like stones dropped into water, the ripple slow but suffocating.

Rudo’s grip on the stuffed animal tightens.
There’s no one left to take care of him.
Understanding settles in, sharp and absolute.
He’s going back into the system.

"I guess you wouldn't know, Rudo." Riyo taps the bottom of the hot sauce, hoping to squeeze the last bits out of the bottle onto her fries. "It happened a year before you came to the Ground."
Rudo swallows down the last bite of his burger before his eyes wander the table for other snacks. "What happened?"
With a long, final drag, Enjin finishes his cigarette, his exhale wafting up in the air to join the smoke from the grill. Rudo expects him to speak then, but the man only stubs out his smoke before grabbing and lighting another one. Riyo chuckles at his impatient groan. "The Nijiku Family, one of the most powerful, elite families on the Ground," Enjin says, glancing over at Gris and a panicked Follo tending the grill, "was massacred."
Zanka's seat on the golden throne was never threatened. His inexhaustible flame flickered elsewhere.
