    Summary

There’s a wall of mirrors in front of him for some reason. He looks up from the snow globe he’s wrapping in bubble wrap. Considers that this is the first time his face has been on a wall of this room. He purses his lips. Tries not to think about it. Tries not to think about how much he looks like her. The same round face. The same light hair. The same blue eyes. Tries not to think about everything else he got from her. That inability to stop feeling–too much all the time–overwhelmed with every emotion that passes through him. Searching for any way, then, to shut the bad ones out. Avoidance as a survival tactic. He understands her, he thinks. He wishes he didn’t.

In this house, he's a child again. Just like every time he saw his mom while she was alive. Small and desperate for a love that, more than ever, he'll never receive. All the work he's done on himself–all the growth–he feels it receding with every second breathing this stuffy, dusty air.

    Summary

When he gets close enough, Chris can see that the paper he is clutching in his tiny hands is a card. A really badly coloured card, with a stick figure drawing of a woman and a much smaller figure with blond hair.
    Oh.
Chris gets it before Theo even says the words.
“Mrs. Tina said it’s mother’s day on Sunday. We made cards,” Theo explains, his voice lacking the usual enthusiasm.
Chris has no idea what to say. He might relate, but that only makes it worse because he knows that there isn’t a thing you can say to make a child feel better after losing a parent. It just sucks, and there is no real fix for it.

    OR,
With Mother's Day coming up, Theo misses his mom. Chris knows a thing or two about that.

“...What I’m trying to say is, we’re best friends, you know? There’s nothing romantic about it. Just best friends.”

“Best friends who live together and raise two kids,” Eddie adds, perplexed.

    “Yes!” Buck agrees, nodding, “Exactly.”

“Okay,” Eddie says, but it’s not, not at all. He’ll be demanding answers soon.

(Or, Eddie wakes up without remembering most of his life. He doesn’t freak out, really, he just needs someone to explain why is he not married to Buck.)

    Summary

Theo plops himself onto the closed toilet seat, drowning in his Spider-Man robe while Eddie blow-dries his hair. He leans his face into Eddie’s stomach, humming to himself and fiddling with one of his bath toys that he’d rescued before being plucked from the water. The tub slowly drains, the bathroom is humid and nice-smelling, and there’s the weight of a toddler against him. Eddie isn’t just falling asleep, he can feel the stress of the day melting away.

He sighs. Theo tips his chin to look at him and sighs back, flaring his nostrils like they’re two tigers communicating in chuffs.

“I’m happy that you’re here, Eddie.”

“Yeah,” Eddie says. He aims the blow dryer down the back of Theo’s robe, making him giggle. “Me too, kiddo.”

or, Buck needs some help putting Theo to bed. Eddie has his back.

    Summary

Christopher has always secretly loved when people mistook Buck for his dad. He never said it out loud. Not to Eddie. Not to Buck. Definitely not to anyone else.

But every time someone smiled at them at the zoo and said “Your son is adorable,” Every time a teacher assumed Buck was Mr Diaz, every time automatically corrected people with a soft, “Actually, I’m…” before Chris could pretend for a second longer.

Christopher loved it. Because Buck chose him. Every single day. He was his Buck.

    OR

Christopher is struggling to understand where he fits into Buck’s life now he has Theo
