Summary
In D&D, a good DM will let you choose the path of your story. The opposite is known as railroading your players – no matter what they choose, they always end up following a predetermined path.
Mike has always felt like his life is being railroaded. Even when he was a child. Even when he became an outcast and was friends with outcasts. Even when he got involved with the supernatural side of Hawkins. Even when it got put under quarantine, trapping them all in this suffocating small town.
After the Mac-Z, the Party's plan to kill Vecna goes sideways, and Will is lost to his own mind. Mike can do nothing except fight his inner demons at the end of the world, all while overhearing some conversations not meant for him.

“I mean it’s not uncommon,I thought I might be,” he adds, voice low. “A couple months ago.”
El, bless her, doesn’t even blink. “Right, I remember Max having to buy the test and the cashier saying “Wow, they really get younger every year, huh?” and then Max yelled at him.” She giggles like it’s not the most earth-shattering thing Mike has ever heard in his life
Max nods slowly. “Yeah. I remember. It was when we went to that show in Indy and Will threw up in the Arby’s parking lot.”
Will winces. “Yeah.”
“Oh my god,” Dustin says, staring at him like he’s grown a second head. “Wait—you? You and—”
Mike’s arm falls from Will’s shoulders.
“What?”
Will freezes.

Summary
Mike puts a hand on his stomach and blurts out suddenly:
“I don't believe you.”
“What? But why?” Will doesn't understand.
Mike looks at him as if he's just asked the most obvious and stupid question in the world.
“Because you're not a doctor, you're an artist. How can you say something like that to pregnant people?”
“God, you're not even… Fine,” Will leans back onto the bed in resignation. “Okay.”
A story where drunk Mike and Will discuss some very strange topics.

Will raises his eyebrows. “Is that why you came in here?” he repeats, looking back down at the blue flannel. “To ask me about the weather in Lenora?”
“Kind of,” Mike says, and then, “well no, not about the weather specifically. I just– I wanted to talk to you.”
“Oh.” And Will looks a lot more surprised at this, actually, than the idea that Mike might have just wanted to come to his room to make small talk about unseasonably frigid California winters. “Okay. What about?”
“Anything.” The response is embarrassingly immediate. “Everything. I don’t know. I missed you.”
Hawkins, 1986. The world is ending, there are too many people in Mike's house, and to top it all off, he and Will have some things to talk through.

Summary
Through the intense ringing in his ears, Mike registers footsteps pounding down the hallway. The door slams open and the light is flicked on. Someone crashes to their knees beside Mike, pulling him away from the ground and into their arms. Mike thrashes weakly, chest still hitching with sobs, but it’s more painful this time.
He just has to purge himself of his sins.
Yes yes yes. Purge himself. He has to- he has to purge himself.
