“This is Angel,” she says. “Aki, your new partner.”
Aki would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little surprised the first time he saw Angel in full. Angel is awfully pretty—long hair that dangles over his shoulders and sweeps into bangs, big eyes, and soft features that make him look like something tender. His work bag, Aki notices, looks to be subtly expensive, shiny black leather straps digging into his long-sleeved shoulder.
“Hello,” Aki says. “You’re late.”
“I didn’t want to come in,” Angel says. Makima smiles once at Aki, and then she leaves.
Great.
Aki's new coworker is exactly the type of person he usually hates.

“Is there anything else I can help you with tonight?” Shane says with a grin. Something flashes in Ilya’s eyes.
“I would think so,” Ilya says contemplatively before yanking Shane forward by the collar of his shirt, his luggage rolling uselessly to the side as he pushes Shane further into the room. The door shuts with a tremendous slam.
Ilya’s mouth closes on Shane, hot and insistent as they stumble through the foyer to the beds, both of them laughing a little breathlessly while Ilya gets his hands on the ridiculous suit Shane has to wear for his job.
“Sir, I’m just a bellboy,” Shane protests, or pretends to protest, in between Ilya licking into his mouth.
Ilya is a regular at the hotel Shane works as a bellboy at. None but Shane can figure out why he keeps returning.

When Al-Haitham seats himself, he finds Kaveh already looking at him. “Kaveh,” he says.
“Hello, teammate,” Kaveh says, appearing to decide on a smile that comes across a little like a grimace. Or maybe that’s on purpose. “It’s been a while. Actually, I feel like I never speak to you. Ever. Even at any of the several games we’ve played against each other. But now we’re roommates. Isn’t it funny how life works out?”
Years after being drafted to different professional hockey teams, Kaveh gets traded to Sumeru and becomes roommates with Al-Haitham.

“I’m four!” Shane exclaims proudly, turning back and holding up four fingers in two peace signs, wiggling them at the camera. “I’m going to be the best four-year-old hockey player ever.”]
“You were so cute,” Ilya croons, reaching one arm out to sling it around Shane’s shoulders and pull him into his side, Shane grumbling all the while. “I love it that you were so very small. Even the jersey is too big! Is so wonderful.”
“Again, I think that all children go through a phase where they are very small,” Shane says, but he’s smiling by the time Ilya pokes one affectionate finger into his cheek, driving into his freckles. “Stop that.”
Ilya reacts to videos of Shane playing hockey as a child.

Their faces are very close now. They’re both huffing, winded from the run. When Kaveh exhales, Al-Haitham can smell the mint gum he always liked to chew.
“I hate you,” Kaveh spits, but he doesn’t move away.
“I know.” Al-Haitham brings a hand up to his face. He pauses before he wipes away a tear.
Kaveh’s trembling. “You ruined me."
Al-Haitham exhales, slow and shuddery. “I know.”
Kaveh closes his eyes— “I hate that you left me.”
—and Al-Haitham kisses him.
After four long years, Al-Haitham finally returns to the idol industry.
