Summary
We never found out what happened to the Master after he was dragged back to Gallifrey at The End of Time, we just know that his drums were removed and he was stuck with a bunch of people who hated him. It's extremely possible that he was tortured until he made his escape and I decided to write a story about that. Includes the misunderstanding of the Doctor thinking the Master is dead so he never tries to rescue him but the Master takes that as the Doctor doesn't care about him and abandoned him.

He has the Doctor exactly where he wants him, and as he tightens his grip around his throat, he can almost feel the anticipatory tingle of artron energy tickling his fingertips. He is so close. Closer than he has ever been before. With the Doctor's life in his hands, he only has to squeeze a bit harder. Just a bit harder.
