“Right then.” She glanced down at her watch again and cursed. Now she was really going to miss it. “I’m sorry again, but I’ve really got to go, I’m- shit I’m late.” She moved her other hand to shake the woman’s hand, looked down and saw her long lithe fingers stained a brownish red up to the wrist. Stained with blood. No. Surely her hands weren’t covered in dried blood.
When she looked up the woman was still smiling and surely she was imagining the edge to it?
