Summary
In 1903, a twenty-four year old Verso Dessendre goes to a bar to prove to himself that he isn't gay. When he instead gets taken under Gustave's experienced, deeply slutty wing and riden to within an inch of his life, he is not exactly inclined to complain about this.
(Or: Masken said a single sentence and I responded with 5k of porn. You know, like a normal person?)

Summary
Father Gustave Moreau knows three things when he arrives at Saint-Élie: his flock is wealthy, his predecessor is dead, and the bishop has warned him about the Dessendres.
Verso Dessendre knows three things when he comes to Mass with blood under his nails and sin on his tongue: he killed the woman who broke him, he wants to fuck his priest, and he's not sure which sin is worse.
Father Gustave has one answer: come to me. Bleeding or whole. Just come.
What they build is a private religion—one where worship happens on knees, absolution is paid in pain, and the only miracle is the moment a sinner learns to let himself be touched gently.
Or : Verso Dessendre didn't believe in God until a priest put his mouth on him and called it prayer.

Summary
"It's a big thing," Sciel says, conversationally. "Having one. It changes the shape of everything. Pierre, Lune, and I—we talked about it for a long time before. It still managed to surprise us, how much." She glances at him. "Do you ever think about it?"
The question lands lightly. That is the thing about Sciel—she puts things down rather than pressing them in. Verso is aware, not for the first time, that this is probably what makes her so effective at interrogations like these.
"I think Gustave has found his way to something that works," he says, which is not an answer to the question she asked, and they both know it. "He's not—wanting for anything. He's got more than enough people in his life who need him."
Sciel makes a small sound. Not disagreement, exactly.
"What," Verso says.
"Nothing." A pause. "I'm just—thinking about what 'enough' means,” she looks at him sideways, "and I think you're avoiding the question."In which two people who had stopped expecting things discover, somewhat belatedly, that they want the same one.
