Sellen had thought she and Ranni were inseparable. Thick as thieves, two peas in a pod, and maybe even growing towards something more. But then Ranni left without a word, and Sellen has never forgiven the witch for abandoning her. Despite everything they had, Ranni had never done anything to help her old companion. There's no way Sellen could forgive her.
But her apprentice has asked her to spend a night at Caria Manor, where her old enemy resides, and despite her misgivings its impossible to say no to the beautiful tarnished.
At least she can just avoid Ranni and enjoy the companionship of her wonderful apprentice.

It sounded like it was coming from the first floor, which meant the most likely origin was Dick's bedroom. Which would be fine, if it also wasn't almost three am.
