Summary
Casimir had been hiding and working in the Ruins and the broken down fringes of Brimshire for about a year at this point, and every few weeks saw him shifting his sleeping place, a precaution that had been quite literally beaten into him over the years.
So for now, with no obligations and nowhere else he should rather be, Casimir stood in the main room of a long-closed bar-turned-headquarters and watched the members of the group he had come to join.
He kept his mouth shut, and his eyes open. These were people he knew nothing about, barring the surface deep information he had learned about Launa, both through what he had heard about her, and from the women herself. It would be wise of him to keep the caution running beneath his skin at the forefront of his mind.

Llyr had been the one to start it after that, placing down 100 bucks on the coffee table the one night they had managed to get together by themselves.
Their only proclamation had been a very confident, “Two years.”
Wulfric had groaned and slammed his head back into the couch cushions, downing what had been a very concerning amount of whiskey from the bottle they had brought out at the start of the evening.
Kassiani doubted he even remembered that evening. What she remembered though, was slamming down another note and countering with, “Three years.”
As always though, Llyr had been right.
It was almost two years to the day, and here they were. Celebrating the official adoption of Remy into Wulfric’s household.

(When he did hit the ground, he hit it hard, and Wulfric did not have time to get his arms around his head during the roll, so he was witness to the horrible crack and sharp pain in his nose, followed by Kassiani’s yelp, and Llyr’s hiss of sympathy.
Wulfric could not care less. He stumbled to his feet, paying no attention to the blood streaming down his face from his now broken nose and staining his grin red.
The young Knight turned to his friends, hands clenched right into fists, and a smile of unbridled glee on his face.
“That’s going to win me far more than those trials tomorrow,” he promised them.)or… Wulfric tries to solve his problems with books, when breaking his nose would’ve provided a much simpler solution.

Summary
As much as Peter argued with May to get a lawyer, because they both knew the landlord had raised the rent to ridiculously high prices, they both knew they wouldn’t be able to afford one.
All the same, Peter was bubbling over with anger and rage all cold skin and bloody teeth because he was surrounded by memories that he had to leave behind.
They had found a relatively cheap apartment on the top floor of a building in Hell’s Kitchen. Apparently nobody stayed for long because their neighbor, as nice as he was, held strange work hours.
May found this suitable because her shifts at the hospital were also on a strange schedule.
(Peter liked this because he could leave down the fire escape without getting caught.)

"Many stages in Eridian reproductive process. Rocky Adrian laying cycles finally sync up recently. So, Rocky Adrian think finally time for eggs. Adrian lay five eggs, very good. Only, strange thing happen. Rocky only lay one egg."
“Oh,” I say. “That’s unusual, right?”
"Very," Rocky hums.
My throat tightens. "Does that mean there's something wrong? Are you sick?"
Rocky makes a gesture I usually interpret as "not exactly". "Not sick," he says. "But doctors still worry. When Eridian start to make fewer eggs, this usually means laying period of life is over soon. Rocky very young for this. Rocky supposed to be in ideal time of life for laying. Rocky younger than Adrian, even." He shifts on three of his feet. Already, my mind is racing ahead, wondering -- "Doctors told Rocky to ask Grace, is this radiation side effect, question?"

Summary
It’s been nearly 27 years since Eva Stratt forced Ryland Grace to board the Hail Mary and sent him off to his death for the greater good of mankind. Meanwhile, Eva and the Project Hail Mary team have been fighting a losing battle against the cooling sun—and their own demons—trying to make sure there were still people to be saved by the time the crew could send a solution home. Right on schedule, the beetles are returning to Earth, hopefully with the answer to saving the world. My pride stings a little at being so underestimated by a species that couldn’t even outrun a particularly determined turtle if their life depended on it. Look, I’m no Sha’Carri Richardson, but I’m pretty proud of my seven-minute mile. I worked hard for it. I haven’t been able to handle myself like this since I was... well, since I left Earth.
“Y’know what? Let’s settle this once and for all. I could use an endurance test anyway. Good for my cardio.”
Dr. Bones perks up. “You’ll do a demonstration?”
“Absolutely. Give me two rest days and a warmup, then I’ll show you what the average human athlete can do.”

AKA, Grace doesn't consider himself much of an athlete, but he's no slouch either. And he's got the physical prowess of his whole species to represent!

Summary
I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.
