Goro stands there, politely looking away as Akira coughs and heaves into the toilet. Despite the circumstances, Goro doesn’t find himself disgusted by the sight in front of him, and instead he’s hit with a wave of restless energy. Consumed by the need to do something and yet infuriatingly unable to do anything. His hands clench into fists so tight he can feel the imprint of his nails in the flesh of his palm.
It’s only when it finally seems as if Akira’s finished for the moment, clutching at the rim and trying to catch his breath, that Goro finally speaks.
“Why do you insist on acting like everything is fine when you’re clearly not feeling well?”

Ryunosuke’s hands shake as he unpacks his essentials alongside Kazuma—nightclothes, the travel futon he managed to stuff into his suitcase. It’s barely big enough for him. Hardly enough for two—but then, Kazuma brought next to nothing back with him. Had nothing to bring back with him. Far be it from him to have gotten his hands anything reminiscent of home—anything like a futon.
So hardly enough for two, but they’ll have to make do. If Kazuma even wants to. And isn’t that the clincher—that friction between what Kazuma wants, and what they need to do. It's some attempt at kindness, or mercy, or something in-between, when Ryunosuke asks, “Where do you want to sleep?”
“We’re married, aren’t we?”
Or: there's only so many ways to come back from the dead, and only so long marriage can be just a contract.
